The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dawnguard Review: Skyrim, Bloody Skyrim

It’s been roughly seven months since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim hit store shelves, and chances are most players of the game have not seen everything there is to offer in it. However, that’s not stopping Bethesda from plopping the very first “expansion” into our laps… and no, it’s not horse armor related this time. Dubbed Dawnguard, this content adds a new wrinkle to the overall plight of Skyrim and puts even more of an emphasis on one of the more popular aspects of the franchise: the supernatural. (more…)

Wreck-It Ralph joins Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed as guest driver

Sega has announced that the titular star of Disney’s upcoming movie Wreck-It Ralph will join NASCAR driver Danica Patrick as a guest racer in the upcoming Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Masanao Maeda, Chairman and Chief Content Officer for Sega of America, was bursting with enthusiasm when the newest addition to the racing roster was made public: “Wreck-It Ralph will make a great addition to our stellar cast in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Disney has created a unique film experience that will appeal to gamers of all ages, and our video game collaboration will give fans the opportunity to interact with their character on the small screen as well.”
Wreck-It Ralph‘s director Rich Moore was also over the moon about the character’s inclusion in Sega’s racer: “To have Wreck-It Ralph included in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a dream come true. The film pays homage to the video games I loved as a kid, including Sonic the Hedgehog in a special cameo, so being able to see Wreck-It Ralph in a real video game alongside Sonic and other iconic Sega characters is unbelievably exciting for me and should be a treat for fans!”
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will launch in November for Xbox 360, PC, PS3, Vita, 3DS and Wii U. Wreck-It Ralph debuts in cinemas that same month, along with a Wii and 3DS game of the same name.
EA confirms Battlefield 4 beta included with Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition

The Battlefield 4 beta is real. After last week’s Origin leak, EA has confirmed that beta access to Battlefield 4 will be included with every PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 copy of the Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition.
The Battlefield 4 beta will be available in Fall 2013. A release date for the full game wasn’t announced, but Battlefield 3 launched a month after its beta. So expect a similar schedule for Battlefield 4.
“Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment,” said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be available in stores on October 23.

Rhianna Pratchett announced as lead writer on Tomb Raider reboot
The gay tortoise-owning, tea-loving, goddess of game writing that is Rhianna Pratchett was revealed by Crystal Dynamics to be the lead writer of their Tomb Raider reboot. The game scribe has had a hand in crafting the stories for several well-regarded games in the past including Heavenly Sword and cult classic Mirror’s Edge.
“I grew up playing Tomb Raider, uncovering the world’s secrets and unearthing its treasures; I have lived and died as Lara Croft, but nothing comes close to the challenge of re-writing her,” Pratchett said. “Seldom do we get the opportunity to reimagine and reinvent a legend, so getting my narrative hands on Miss Croft was a once-in-a-life-time opportunity. It was going back to the genesis of video game action heroines and exploring how to make such an iconic character meaningful and relatable for gamers today.”
The announcement was made during this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, where Pratchett appeared at the Tomb Raider panel alongside the new voice of Lara Croft, Camille Luddington, creative director Noah Hughes, global brand director Karl Stewart and narrative designer John Stafford.
Creativity certainly runs in the Pratchett family as Rhianna’s father is Discworld writer Sir Terry Pratchett.

Sonic Adventure 2 is getting a PSN/XBLA re-release this Fall
Sonic Adventure was released for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade almost two years ago. Since then, fans have idly wondered when the second game in the series would make its debut as a downloadable title.
Sega put an end to the wondering at Comic-Con this past weekend, where they announced that Sonic Adventure 2 will be released for the PSN and XBLA this Fall.
So let’s see… this means that PSN/XBLA remakes of Nights, Jet Set Radio, and now Sonic Adventure 2 will be available in the next few months. It’s a good time to be an old-time Sega fan.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn premieres October 5; full-length trailer released
As promised, 343 Industries and Machinima Prime have unveiled the full-length trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn at Comic-Con. The almost four-minute video has also revealed an October 5 premiere date for the episodic series. Five episodes will be produced, with a new episode appearing every week, culminating with the November 6 launch of Halo 4.
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn tells an exciting story of heroism and sacrifice on a scale never before seen in the Halo universe, taking fans back to the beginning of the human and Covenant war and leading into the events of Halo 4. Set against the backdrop of a United Nations Space Command (UNSC) military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero. Halo fans who experience Lasky’s thrilling origin story in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will be rewarded with special insights into the story of Halo 4 and the Halo Infinity multiplayer experience.
If you’d prefer to watch Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn in one big chunk, a 90-minute extended version will be included in the Halo 4 Limited Edition, which will also be available on November 6.

Battlefield 4 beta access included with Medal of Honor: Warfighter pre-order

I know what you’re thinking… “EA hasn’t even announced Battlefield 4 yet, how can they be talking about a beta?” And it’s true, the game hasn’t been officially announced. But yet, the advertisement shown above appeared on their Origin download service late last night before disappearing earlier this morning.
While the publisher still plans to support Battlefield 3 with additional DLC packs throughout the rest of 2012 and into 2013, the idea of a sequel isn’t that far-fetched. Battlefield 3 sold tremendously well after it’s release last Fall and was still present in the NPD’s top ten for June 2012. EA and developer DICE would be crazy not to make a sequel.
While no other details about Battlefield 4 were leaked (including the important detail of when a beta would place and for what platforms other than the PC), we know that DICE is hard at work on a next-gen game. Could it be Battlefield 4? Maybe.
