New Retail Releases: Tetris Effect, World of Final Fantasy Maxima, Carnival Games, More

It’s not often that we can talk about a new Tetris game as the biggest release of the week, but that’s exactly what’s happening this week.

The Tetris Company has teamed up with Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s Enhance to transform the classic puzzle game into Tetris Effect, a wild extravaganza of sight and sound. Set to launch exclusively for the PS4 this Friday, November 9, Tetris Effect will also feature support for the PlayStation VR headset.

A pair of re-releases will also make their way onto store shelves this week as Square Enix will bring World of Final Fantasy Maxima, their chibi-styled crossover RPG, to the Xbox One for the first time. It’ll be joined by 2K’s Carnival Games, which brings its midway minigames to the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

Finally this week, WB Games is prepping a release of the Hitman 2: Gold Edition ahead of the action shooter’s Standard Edition launch next week. And stores will begin stocking the Xbox One S 1TB + Battlefield V Bundle, even though the included download code for Battlefield V won’t go live until next Thursday, November 15.

You can find the rest of this week’s new retail releases after the break. (more…)

The Games of November 2018

I’m sure that many gamers have decided to check out for the season now that Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on store shelves. But like always, November is just jam-packed with new titles, and some of them are impossible to ignore.

Find out exactly why we’re looking forward to these games after the break. (more…)

Ashe is an outlaw gunslinger… and the next Hero to be added to Overwatch

It’s BlizzCon time, and Blizzard has used their annual convention to announce the next addition to Overwatch. The shooter’s 29th Hero will be Elizabeth Caledonia “Calamity” Ashe (or Ashe for short), an outlaw gunslinger who rides with the Deadlock Gang.

According to her biography on Overwatch’s official website, Ashe has a hair trigger, a love of dynamite, and a robotic sidekick named B.O.B. You can expect to see all three when facing off against her in any of the game’s arenas:

Overview (Role: Damage)
Ashe quickly fires her rifle from the hip or uses her weapon’s aim-down sights to line up a high damage shot. She blasts enemies by throwing dynamite, and her coach gun packs enough punch to put some distance between her and her foes. And Ashe is not alone, as she can call on her omnic ally B.O.B., to join the fray when the need arises.

Ability: The Viper
Ashe’s semi-automatic rifle fires quick shots, or she can use her aim-down sights for a more damaging, precise shot.

Ability: Dynamite
Ashe throws an explosive that detonates after a short delay or immediately when shot. The explosion from Dynamite also lights enemies on fire, dealing damage over time.

Ability: Coach Gun
Ashe blasts enemies in front of her, knocking them away and propelling herself backward for added mobility.

Ability: B.O.B.
Ashe summons her trusted omnic sidekick, B.O.B., who charges forward and knocks enemies into the air, then lays down suppressing fire with his arm cannons.

Blizzard didn’t say when Ashe would be available to download, but you can find an introductory gameplay trailer and an animated “Origin Story” for the outlaw after the break. (more…)

Call of Cthulhu, Lego Harry Potter Collection, more coming to Xbox Store this week

“If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be unfaithful to the spirit of the thing. A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings; but it was the general outline of the whole which made it most shockingly frightful.”

Xbox One owners will be able to answer the Call of Cthulhu this week, as Cyanide Studio will bring an adaptation of Chaosism’s tabletop RPG to Microsoft’s console. Players will be subjected to “creeping madness and cosmic horror” as they attempt to solve an “otherworldly mystery” on a mysterious island.

Thankfully, the whimsical Lego Harry Potter Collection is also now available to download for the Xbox One. The new package includes enhanced re-releases of both Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7

You can learn more about the rest of this week’s additions to the Xbox Games Store after the break. (more…)

Nier: Automata’s 2B will soon join Soul Calibur VI as a playable character

Bandai Namco has announced that Nier: Automata‘s black-clad android, 2B, will soon join Soul Calibur VI as a playable character. We don’t know exactly when she’ll be added to the game, but the new trailer embedded above gives us a good look at her fighting style:

2B wields two swords, Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty. Both have been carefully tuned for maximum efficiency in the hands of a YoRHa android. Her fighting technique is specially designed for combat against machine lifeforms, employing acrobatic leaps and mid-air slashes, lightning-fast evasions and perfectly coordinated strikes.

2B will be a playable fighter in Versus mode, Arcade mode, and Online matches. 2B will also come with her own stage and background music.

Once Bandai Namco adds 2B to Soul Calibur VI, she’ll also come with an alternate costume, alternate weapons, and “Extra Parts & Stickers” to further customize the character’s appearance.

New Retail Releases: Call of Cthulhu, Diablo III: Eternal Collection, Lego Harry Potter Collection, More

It’s All Hallows Eve Eve Eve, and while you might assume that that’s the perfect time to unleash a terrifying new survival horror game on the populace, you’d be (mostly) wrong. Instead, game publishers are following up last week’s launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 with a slew of re-releases and a smattering of smaller games.

But don’t worry fright fans, a monstrous entity from beyond our human comprehension will also make an appearance on store shelves this week…

H.P. Lovecraft’s greatest creation, the elder god Cthulhu, will return to video games this week with the release of Call of Cthulhu from Cynaide Studio. The PS4 and Xbox One game is based on the popular tabletop RPG, players must infiltrate an island of “unfriendly locals” and thread the needle between “sanity and psychosis” to uncover the truth. Call of Cthulhu will also be available to download for the PC.

Another fictional godlike being drives the story behind Blizzard’s Diablo III: Eternal Collection, which makes its way to the Switch for the first time this week. The Eternal Collection includes the original Action RPG, as well as the Reaper of Souls expansion, the Rise of the Necromancer Pack, and an exclusive Ganondorf Armor Set.

A very different set of magical spells will be cast in the Lego Harry Potter Collection, which will be released for the Switch and Xbox One this week. The compilation includes both Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7.

And speaking of compilations, Square Enix will package together the entire Kingdom Hearts saga this week for the PS4 with Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far.

Finally this week, we loop back around to a scary sight with Digital Dreams Entertainment’s Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition, a retail release of the supernatural sports sim for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

A complete look at all of this week’s new retail releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Team Sonic Racing needs a slight tune up… May 21, 2019 release date announced by Sega

Sega and Sumo Digital are temporarily tapping the brakes on Team Sonic Racing. The game, which was previously slated to launch this Winter, will now be released on May 21, 2019.

According to Sega, this delay is happening because they want to give the developer time to help Team Sonic Racing become “the best game it can be”:

Battle Princess Madelyn will officially launch sometime this Fall

Casual Bit Games has announced that Battle Princess Madelyn has completed development and is now awaiting certification from the three consolemakers. That also means that the game is currently on track for a Fall 2018 launch on the PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, Wii U, and Vita.

Heavily inspired by Super Ghouls N Ghosts and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap, Battle Princess Madelyn was built using design ideas from Creative Director Christopher Obritsch’s daughter, and he’s thrilled with how the final product came together:

From its initial concept days, right through the successful Kickstarter campaign which reached over $212,665 CAD, until its imminent release, Battle Princess Madelyn has developed and grown from inspiration from feedback from my daughter, who inspired the original idea, gamers and ideals from the very best of classic retro games fused with modern presentation complete with gameplay and fun. I believe all our goals have been achieved with much much more added ingredients, features and elements that will have gamers engaged in a game that has been crafted with real planning, dedication and, a lot of love.

A new trailer for Battle Princess Madelyn has been embedded above, and an exact release date will be announced “very shortly.”
