Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut coming to PS4, Xbox One in March

In Born Ready’s trailer for Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut, there are three simple steps to winning: “Pilot the Strike Suit. Obliterate the enemy. Save Earth.” That’s easy enough, right? The Director’s Cut, which is referred to as the “definitive version of the game,” has “a restructured campaign… with an adapted story and all new dialogue,” according to Born Ready’s announcement. This restructuring allows players to man the Strike Suit even sooner, jumping right into the action.

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One in March, and Born Ready will be announcing a PC version “later this spring.”

Five games were added to the Xbox Live Game Store today, though one of them appeared on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

The game doing double duty is Capcom’s reboot of Strider. The side-scrolling ninja game is available in both current-gen and next-gen versions, though both carry the same $14.99 price tag.

Also available this week is Earth Defense Force 2025, D3 Publisher’s latest sequel to the cult favorite Earth Defense Force 2017 and Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. Original developer Sandlot is back for this entry, which brings an online campaign, and a lot of new bugs, to the series. Finally this week, the Xbox 360 adaptation of The Lego Movie and an Xbox One port of Rayman Legends are new to the store.

More details about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Wolfenstein: The New Order launches May 20 with Doom 4 beta access

Bethesda has announced that Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on May 20 (May 23 in Europe).

Wolfenstein: The New Order is in development at MachineGames and will skip the seemingly mandatory multiplayer mode for a renewed focus on the game’s alternate history storyline. In this New Order, Hitler won World War II through the use of “mysterious technology” and has goosestepped across the world, slapping swastikas on EVERYTHING. Enter B.J. Blazkowicz and the rest of the resistance heroes introduced in the new trailer above. Like Captain America, they plan to sock Hitler right in his stupid face… in a Mature-rated style, of course.

As a special bonus, all players who pre-order Wolfenstein: The New Order will receive access to a Doom 4 beta test. Now known simply as “Doom,” Bethesda has promised to reveal more details about the fourth enrty in the Doom series at a later date. However, a beta FAQ is available at the publisher’s website.

Progress on Doom 4 has experienced several starts and stops since it was first announced in 2008. Last year, Creative Director Tim Willits said that id Software started over on Doom 4’s development because the game lacked “soul” and “personality.”

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released this Summer

The continuity snarl that is the Transformers franchise makes the last half-century of Marvel and DC storytelling look neat and ordered by comparison. The series is rife with alternate universes and the executives in charge of this narrative morass have attempted to merge, split, and remerge the storyline since the 1980s.

The latest attempt at building an all-purpose Transformers universe is Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, the latest game adaptation of the long-running series from Activision. According to GameSpot, Rise of the Dark Spark will merge High Moon’s War For Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron continuity with Michael Bay’s Transformers films to tie-in with this Summer’s Age of Extinction. Sadly, High Moon won’t be developing the game. Instead, Activision has enlisted Edge of Reality to create the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One game. WayForward Technologies will develop a handheld version of the game for the 3DS.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released this Summer to coincide with the theatrical opening of Transformers: Age of Extinction.

New Releases: Donkey Kong Country: Tropcial Freeze, EDF 2025, NASCAR 14, More

earthdefenseforce2025-header

While Mario and Sonic have already conquered the Winter Olympics, Nintendo is ready to send another one of its beloved characters out into the snow. The normally jungle-bound Donkey Kong will get to play in the powder this week with the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropcial Freeze for the Wii U. Better pack your mittens, big guy.

A jungle of a different kind will need to be saved in D3 Publisher’s Earth Defense Force 2025. The big bugs are back and the Earth Defense Force must once again band together to save the urban jungle that is Tokyo. You can get it on the PS3 or the Xbox 360.

This week’s final new release is NASCAR 14 for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The franchise has switched publishers from Activision to Deep Silver, but developer Eutechnyx is once again responsible for development on the racing simulation.

Finally, a pair of ports have found new homes this week. Ubisoft’s highly acclaimed Rayman Legends makes a next-generation leap to the PS4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, WB’s Lego Marvel Super Heroes downgrades to the DS. Games for everybody!

TitanFall beta is now open to all on Xbox One, PC

After previously limiting the TitanFall Xbox One beta to a small pool of applicants and code giveaway winners, Respawn Entertainment has decided to open the flood gates today. Around midnight, the developer switched the beta’s status from “closed” to “open,” allowing everyone to jump in and give the next-generation shooter a shot ahead of its March 11 release.

The TitanFall beta is available in the “New Game Demos” section of the XBL Store and will remain available until 9:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, February 18. So you’ve got two more days. Use them wisely… it’s probably best if you call in sick now instead of Monday morning.

UPDATE: Speaking of Monday morning, the TitanFall beta is now open to all on PC as well. To make sure everyone gets a chance to experience TitanFall to the fullest, Respawn has also extended the beta through Wednesday, February 19.
