Daily Scoop: November 6, 2012 – Don’t forget to vote!

Today is a big day here in America – the day to vote! I did my civic duty earlier today, and now I’ve got a nice shiny sticker showing that fact off. And tonight, I’m heading out for board game night to relieve some of the stress of this election. At least after tomorrow, people will stop talking about politics for three and a half more years!

Not too much going on with deals, other than mega sales (still!) on Xbox 360 consoles over at Amazon. Save anywhere from $50 to $115! It’s utter madness. You might also want to take some time to check out their decent clearance section right now. Scoop them games up!

No t-shirts today, unfortunately! But Shirt Punch is having a grab bag, so you might want to take your chances in the hopes that you can get one of these awesome shirts for $6!

The Pinball Arcade added to Wii U launch window

Did you catch our interview with Rob Mann, the Community Manager at FarSight Studios? He discussed the company’s most recent project, The Pinball Arcade, including the upcoming Wii U version.

During the conversation, Mann revealed that FarSight plans to release the Wii U version of The Pinball Arcade during the console’s launch window, likely in late November or December:

WZ – Mike: Are you hoping to have [The Pinball Arcade] out at launch?

Mann: We don’t think we will make it to the launch date, but we are striving to get as close to that date as we can.

The Pinball Arcade is currently available for the PlayStation Network, Vita, Xbox Live Arcade, iOS, and Android.

THQ delays South Park RPG, Company of Heroes 2, Metro: Last Light

THQ is still in the middle of a financial crisis. The publisher posted their quarterly financial numbers today and revealed that they lost $20 million in the three month period ending September 30. But, this is an improvement over the $92 million loss they suffered in the same quarter in 2011.

Because of their continued money woes, THQ has delayed a trio of titles that would have launched in early 2013. Company of Heroes 2 and Metro: Last Light, which were both scheduled to launch very early in the year, will now be released in March. South Park: The Stick of Truth will also miss its planned release date, moving from March 5 to “early fiscal 2014,” which means it’ll be released sometime between April 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013.

THQ President Jason Rubin had this to say about South Park’s delay: “I believe South Park’s market opportunity is significant. It is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated titles of calendar 2013. It is also an expansive title, encompassing multiple television seasons’ worth of content. We have been working closely with the co-creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, to make sure all of the game’s content performs to the high standards of the TV show, and this takes time. THQ is committed to giving gamers no less than the rich South Park game they have been waiting for and deserve.”

The Pinball Arcade: An Interview With Community Manager Rob Mann

In February of this year, FarSight Studios released The Pinball Arcade, their most ambitious pinball simulation game yet. For those unaware, The Pinball Arcade is a collection of real-world pinball tables, painstakingly digitized to the smallest detail and available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and mobile devices. Every month since release, new tables have been added as DLC. And, as a major accomplishment, licensed tables such as “The Twilight Zone” and “Harley-Davidson” were obtained with a little help from the game’s dedicated fan base. Just this past Tuesday, “Elvira and the Party Monsters” and “No Good Gofers” were added to the PlayStation store

As a diehard pinball fan, and a fan of FarSight’s pinball offerings in general, I was eager to learn more about The Pinball Arcade. Therefore, I recently chatted with FarSight Studios User Community Manager Rob Mann to inquire about The Pinball Arcade’s present, and what we can look forward to in the future.

Nintendo brings 5,000 Wii U demo kiosks to stores

Nintendo has announced that they’ve completed their rollout of Wii U demo kiosks, installing over 5,000 of the machines at Target, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, and Toys R Us.

Not every kiosk will feature the same titles, but playable demos of the Nintendo-published Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Sing Party will be included at most kiosks. Some will also feature demos of Ubisoft’s ZombiU and Rayman Legends. Other games will be available in video form. I tried the demo kiosk at my local Target this weekend and the Wii U GamePad was already broken.

The Wii U console and at least two dozen launch games will be available on November 18.
