The Walking Dead Season 2: No Going Back Review: Darling Clementine

walkingdead-season2-header

The two adaptations of The Walking Dead produced by Telltale have been nothing short of amazing. Some of the best storytelling I’ve ever experienced in a video game has come from these titles. That’s why it makes the finale of Season 2 so bittersweet… it means I’ll have to wait another year (at least) to see what happens in Season 3.

Last season, this wasn’t much of a problem: I purchased the full season when it was on sale, but it stayed in my backlog until Season 2 was announced. Then, I blazed through the first set of episodes in a five-day emotional rollercoaster. Once it was completed, I only had to wait a few months for the next chapter in Clementine’s struggle for survival.

But for now, I must wait. And it will be excruciating. Because chapter five of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead Season 2, No Going Back, marks the conclusion of one of the greatest games I’ve ever played.

Daily Scoop: January 6, 2015 – So much snow

It’s a day full of snow here in Philadelphia, and it looks gorgeous. I would much rather be at home playing video games, snuggled under a blanket, occasionally glancing outside and sighing at how beautiful it is. But alas! Perhaps another day.

There’s an all-new bundle over at Indie Royale, and this one’s called the Nudge Bundle. Beat the average to get Crayon Chronicles, Expander, Undead Legions, Bret Airborne, and The Curse of Nordic Cove.

There’s also a new Humble Weekly Bundle for you to snag as well, and it’s called Eye Candy 2. Pay what you want for Year Walk, Lovely Planet, and The Blue Flamingo. Beat the average to unlock Dust: An Elysian Tail, MIND: Path to Thalamus, and Eidolon. Pay $10 or more to unlock FRACT OSC.

Over at Steam, the Midweek Madness deal is The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II for $5.09. Splurge and get the Complete Pack for just $1.70 more. The Daily Deal is 50% off of X-Plane 10 Global – 64 Bit, knocking it down to $29.99.

Hit the jump to see today’s great shirts!

Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s Dead Kings expansion will be available next week

Ubisoft has announced that Dead Kings, the downloadable expansion for Assassin’s Creed: Unity, will be released on January 13. As a way of apologizing for the bugs that still continue to plague the game, Dead Kings will be available as a free download for everyone who purchased a copy of Unity on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Unlike the spinoff settings of previous Assassin’s Creed DLC, Dead Kings will expand the main game’s campaign in new directions:

After the events of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Arno leaves Paris for Saint Denis, a mysterious city that holds the crypts of deceased French kings. Sent on a mission to the extensive underground of the Basilica, Arno will face a faction of new foes, the Raiders, populating its catacombs. Equipped with a lantern and a new powerful weapon, the Guillotine Gun, Arno will have to navigate the dangerous passageways to uncover the darkest secrets of the city.

Don’t forget to check out the DLC’s debut trailer above and you can find more information about its content at the UbiBlog.

Tony Hawk talks up Pro Skater 2015 at CES 2015

tonyhawkTony Hawk wants to remind all of us that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2015 is still in development. Taking the stage during Sony’s CES 2015 keynote, the famed skateboarder confirmed that the next Tony Hawk game is currently in development for the PS4.

But if you’re an Xbox One owner, fear not, Hawk told TMZ that the game is also in the works for Microsoft’s new-gen console back in November.

Hawk will once again be working with Activision to develop the console game, as well as a currently unnamed mobile spinoff to replace the previously announced Tony Hawk’s Shred Session, which was recently canceled (excuse me, “indefinitely postponed”). The last Tony Hawk game for consoles, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, was released in 2012.

Sony has sold more than 18.5 million PS4 consoles worldwide

ps4-header

With the book officially closed on 2014, Sony has revealed that they have sold more than 18.5 million PlayStation 4 consoles across the world since the system launched in November 2014. According to Sony, this officially makes the PS4 the fastest-selling system in PlayStation history.

In addition to nearly 19 million consoles, Sony also announced that more than 81.8 million PS4 games have been sold since the system launched. This number includes digital downloads as well as retail releases. For those who love the “attach rate” statistic, that means that every PS4 owner has purchased approximately 4.42 games.

“We are absolutely delighted that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as their console of choice throughout this holiday season,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. “We will continue to reinforce and deliver additional value on PS4 as the best place to play, by bringing even more exciting content and by enriching our wide array of service offerings.”

Finally, Sony announced that their PlayStation Plus service currently has 10.9 million subscribers. That likely means that they’ve distributed a lot of free games through the service’s “Instant Game Collection.”

Miyamoto: Unannounced Wii U games to arrive in 2015 and Star Fox Wii U will be playable at E3

Shigeru Miyamoto recently sat down with Smosh Games to play a round of Mario Kart 8 and answer a few questions about Nintendo’s upcoming release calendar.

With the subject of racing games fresh in their minds, the Smosh Games guys asked Miyamoto about the future of the F-Zero franchise. Once again, the developer said that he wasn’t sure what to do with the franchise, but if it were to come back, it would feature a new controller interface:

“We see a lot of other designers making more traditional racing style of games, so we’ve tried to focus on something that feels a little bit more ‘gamey.’ Maybe if we create a new kind of controller interface and if we find one that’s particularly suited for F-Zero, maybe we’ll do something with it in the future.”

Miyamoto also said that one of the reasons the F-Zero series is on hiatus is because he and Character Designer Takaya Imamura are currently hard at work on Star Fox Wii U. The next adventure starring Fox McCloud will be released sometime this year, but Miyamoto would only confirm that the game will be playable at this year’s E3 Expo. That doesn’t preclude an early Summer for the game, but late Summer is more likely.

But finally, the big bombshell (or should that be Blue Shell?) from the interview came near the end. When discussing Nintendo’s Wii U lineup for 2015, Miyamoto mentioned that the consolemaker has a large number of games in the pipeline including the aforementioned Star Fox Wii U, as well as The Legend of Zelda Wii U, Mario Maker and Yoshi’s Woolly World. But he also admitted that several unannounced games are currently in the works: “There’s more, but I don’t think I can talk about them right now.”

Nintendo is a company that knows how to keep a secret, so it’s unlikely that we’ll learn more about these unannounced games until Nintendo is ready to actually announce them. But who knows, perhaps Miyamoto was referring to the mysterious Project Guard and Project Giant Robot, which were shown behind closed doors during last year’s E3 Expo.

First issue of Mortal Kombat X comic available today

mortalkombatx-chapteroneDC Comics has announced (via their Read DC Entertainment portal) that the first issue of the Mortal Kombat X miniseries will be available digitally beginning today.

The comic series will serve as a bridge between 2011’s Mortal Kombat and this April’s Mortal Kombat X. Old favorites (Scorpion, Raiden, Kenshi), new friends (Cassie Cage), and characters that fit into neither category (Hsu Hao, Daegon) will all appear within its pages. Hopefully this is a hint that Kenshi will soon be announced as a playable character in Mortal Kombat X, but we know the comic series will include non-playable characters as well.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon recently shared a few preview images from the comic through his Twitter account.
