Weekly Warp-Up: Givin’ Up the Ghost Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
The biggest news from this week is that Blizzard finally dropped the axe on Project Titan and StarCraft: Ghost. The former would have been Blizzard’s MMO followup to World of Warcraft and the latter would have been a stealth/action game set within the StarCraft universe. Both games had their problems over the years as Blizzard originally delayed Titan’s release more or less indefinitely last year and Ghost was put “on hold” in 2006. But now they’ve both gone to that big GameStop in the sky, giving Blizzard more time to work on Hearthstone and their other projects.
Also this week, Mike Ryan turned in a review of The Walking Dead Season 2: Amid the Ruins, the fourth episode of Telltale’s retelling of the popular comic book series.

New Releases: Super Smash Bros. 3DS, Shadow of Mordor, Forza Horizon 2, More
Phase Two of Nintendo’s plan to dominate the Fall gaming season kicks off this week as Super Smash Bros. For 3DS, the first Smash Bros. game for a handheld system, will be available on Friday, October 3. New friends (Little Mac! The Duck Hunt Dog! Miis! Mega Man! Pac-Man!) and old favorites (Mario! Link! Samus!) give it one of the deepest rosters the franchise has ever seen, making Super Smash Bros. For 3DS even more of a must have.
Also available this week is WB Games’ latest foray into the Lords of the Rings universe, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC, PS4, Xbox One). Set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, Shadow of Mordor will tell a brand new tale within the franchise with assistance from Peter Jackson, J.R.R. Tolkien Enterprises, and the writer of Red Dead Redemption. Less epic (but still pretty epic) is Microsoft’s newest racing game, Forza Horizon 2, which will be released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Finally this week, Atlus is going back to the arena to bring PS3 and Xbox 360 owners Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Fight!
More new releases (including the return of one of the greatest PC games ever) can be found after the break. (more…)

Daily Scoop – September 26, 2014 – Weekend at last
I was going to make the subject “Weird at last,” but then you’d all know that I’ve been listening to Welcome to Night Vale a lot. Well, actually, I guess that’s not a bad thing – just bad that it took me so long to start, and now I can’t get enough of it. If you haven’t started yet, I highly recommend it!
Anyway! Let’s talk about deals. There’s not much going on today – Steam’s Daily Deal is Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion for $9.99, which is 74% off. Their Weekend Deals include the Valve Complete Pack, which has Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Team Fortress 2, among many others. It costs just $24.99, which is pretty absurd for how much content you’re getting.
There’s not much else going on, though you can always, always count on the Humble Store for at least a few deals. Pick up Pid for $1.99 or Shelter for $2.99.
And finally, t-shirts:

Xbox Store Today: Anna Extended Edition, KickBeat, Skate 3
There’s three new games available on the Xbox Games Store today, including two on the Xbox 360 and one on the Xbox One.
The Xbox 360 is now home to Anna: Extended Edition, a first-person horror game that built up a bit of a cult following on the PC in 2012, and Skate 3, EA’s last skateboarding game from their popular franchise:
Anna: Extended Edition ($14.99)
Set in an abandoned sawmill nestled high in the Italian mountains, Anna challenges the player to uncover horrific clues and use them to solve puzzles related to your character’s dark past. The player’s behavior does not only determine the mental health of the main character but can also change locations and unveil new secrets leading to one of eight possible endings.Skate 3 ($19.99)
The Skate franchise is back and rolling into new territory as Skate 3 heads to the brand new city of Port Carverton. Delivering a unique co-op skateboarding experience, build your own customized skate team and change the face of the city by taking on unique team challenges, competing against rival crews online, and shredding the streets of an all-new skaters’ paradise.
And on the Xbox One we have KickBeat Special Edition, Zen Studios’ “kung fu rhythm” game that was released for the Wii U and PS4 two weeks ago:
KickBeat Special Edition ($9.99)
From indie pioneers Zen Studios (makers of Pinball FX2 and CastleStorm) comes KickBeat Special Edition, an innovative rhythm game with a Kung Fu theme, featuring fully 3D characters and high-energy music! The KickBeat Special Edition Soundtrack features tracks from a diverse lineup of artists from well known bands such as Pendulum and Marilyn Manson, to indie musicians Celldweller and Blue Stahli, to hidden talents like electronic music producer Voicians and Taiwanese rapper Shen Yi.
Mario’s B Dasher kart returns in first Mario Kart 8 DLC pack
Mario Kart aficionados love the B Dasher kart from Mario Kart DS. As Mario’s main ride, it made its mark on a whole generation of players. And now it’s back.
It will join three new characters (Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, and Link) and eight new tracks in this November’s “The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack.” To get you extra pumped, Nintendo of Japan has released a new trailer showcasing the kart taking curves and throwing shells.
“The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack” will be priced at $7.99 when its released in November.

There’s going to be a Duck Dynasty game this Fall… because of course there is
While the big-time video game tie-in seems to be dead (or at the very least, on life support), the practice of turning faddish television shows into quickie game adaptations is alive and well. Case in point, Activision’s adaptation of A&E’s inexplicably popular Duck Dynasty. The game, which is also simply called Duck Dynasty, will ask players to “Become A Robertson” by hunting ducks (and using their duck calling skills), fishing, racing boats, and playing pranks. It sounds like the Robertsons are also providing voicework for the game, so fans should be pleased.
Duck Dynasty will be released on October 14 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A handheld version for the 3DS is also in the works and will be released on the same day. That’s right, we’re going from announcement to release in a little over two weeks. Even if you’re a fan of the show, that’s never a good sign.
Total War: Attila will burn the world in 2015
Sega has announced that players will be able to take command of the barbarian hordes in the next Total War game, Total War: Attila. A 2015 release is planned for the PC exclusive, which is in development at Creative Assembly.
The Dark Ages approach. A time of famine, disease and war, where refugees in their thousands flee from a sweeping tide of destruction and death. Desperate barbaric tribes rally against the ailing might of a dying and divided Roman empire; the light of civilization gutters and dims. In the great steppes of Scythia, a vast and terrifying force gathers, led by a warrior king whose thirst for conquest is utterly unequaled. The Scourge of God, the very herald of the apocalypse, Attila the Hun.
“With Total War: Attila we will create a Total War game that will challenge and enthrall fans of the series,” said Janos Gaspar, Project Lead on Attila. “We’re reintroducing some features that fans have been asking for, such as family trees and skill trees, and improving many of the core aspects of Total War we know are important to them. But to really bring the period to life, we’re building on these foundations with many new strategic features for them to consider, such as advanced street-fighting, civilians, complete settlement destruction and dynamic fire that can rage across a city as armies clash. We want to push players to the limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of it.”
Creative Assembly will add “new gameplay mechanics which improve and add to numerous core turn-based and real-time systems” while giving players the chance to conquer the world as Attila or battle for survival as the last remnants of the Roman Empire. Either way, the game’s tagline certainly applies… “Your World Will Burn!”
