Platinum is developing a Legend of Korra game for Activision

In the “OMG YAY!” department, Platinum Games has announced it is developing The Legend of Korra, a game based on – no kidding – the show by the same name. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Fans can currently vote on the cover art on Facebook.

Tim Hedrick is writing the game’s story, which is good news, since he’s involved in the show. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, co-creators and executive producers, will be consulting. The game will take place between seasons two and three, and you’ll get to play as Korra herself, using the four elements to not just fight enemies, but also participate in the Pro-Bending arena. You’ll also get to ride on her awesome bear-dog, Naga!

There’s also a 3DS game in the works, though this one is a turn-based strategy game developed by Webfoot Technologies. Season three of the show starts tomorrow, and the game will be out this Fall.

Hyrule Warriors: Tecmo Koei Japan has released new trailers for Zelda and Impa too

hyrulewarriors-japan-header

Does anybody else remember when Impa was a frail old woman who collapsed after sending Link on his way to rescue the Princess in the original Legend of Zelda? Yeah… that’s not the Impa we’re going to get in Hyrule Warriors. Like the Link trailer they released last week, Tecmo Koei Japan has given us a glimpse of this Impa in a brand new trailer for the game. Between using a sword that’s taller than she is and the jagged scar across her face, this Impa is wicked intimidating.

The publisher has also released a new trailer featuring Zelda herself. The Princess uses magical light abilities to vanquish the monsters threatening Hyrule including a phantom bow and a portal that rains down meteors. She is no damsel in distress.

Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan on August 14. We in America will get a chance to hack and slash our way through Hyrule on September 26. Both trailers can be found after the break.

XBL Store Today: Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Grid: Autosport, more

transformersriseofthedarkspark-header

Microsoft has added nine games to the Xbox Live Games Store today and it looks like there’s (mostly) something for everyone.

As with yesterday’s PlayStation Store update, the big addition to the XBL Store today is Activision’s Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. The title merges the Transformers movieverse with High Moon’s popular War For/Fall of Cybertron games, though Edge of Reality is the developer on this installment. Rise of the Dark Spark is available to download for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from gigantic robots bashing each other is Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This puzzle platformer, which is also available for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, is set during World War I and features a unique hand-drawn art style.

Other new releases available this week include…

  • Grid: Autosport (Xbox 360), the latest installment in Codemasters’ popular racing series.
  • R.B.I. Baseball 14 (Xbox One), a next-gen version of MLB Advanced Media’s retro baseball sim.
  • Zombie Driver: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One), a next-gen version of EXOR’s overhead driving game.

More information on all of these games (as well as a few others) can be found after the break.

Daily Scoop: June 25, 2014 – Bundles galore

I played a lot of games last night, just like I said I would! But I also did the dishes, put away the laundry, and managed to feed myself dinner. All in all, I was successful at both work and play.

Although I know I just said this yesterday, there’s yet another brand new bundle over at Indie Royale right now – this time, it’s the Debut 15 Bundle. Pay the current minimum for Blue Rose, Copod, Toy Wars Invasion, Radium, Rock Zombie, Pahelika: Revelations, and Crystal Story II. You can also still get your hands on the Indievision Bundle over at Humble Bundle as well.

People keep asking me, “What did you get in the Steam Summer Sale?” So far, nothing, but today I’m tempted to grab Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII for $4.07 each (aiee!), and They Bleed Pixels for $1.99. The sale is going to break down my resolve at some point!

Check out today’s shirts after the jump!

Transformers: Dark Spark, Valiant Hearts, Grid: Autosport, more added to PS Store

transformersriseofthedarkspark-header

We’re getting an incredibly diverse selection of new games in this week’s PlayStation Store update.

The biggest new game is Activision’s latest Transformers adaptation, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. The title merges the Transformers movieverse with High Moon’s popular War For/Fall of Cybertron games, though Edge of Reality is the developer on this installment. Rise of the Dark Spark is available to download for the PS3 and PS4.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from gigantic robots bashing each other is Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This puzzle platformer, which is also available for the PS3 and PS4, is set during World War I and features a unique hand-drawn art style.

Other new releases available this week include…

  • Grid: Autosport (PS3), the latest installment in Codemasters’ popular racing series.
  • BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, a Vita release of the one-on-one fighting game.
  • XBlaze Code: Embryo (PS3, Vita), a visual novel prequel to the BlazBlue series.
  • Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (PS2 Classic), the cult RPG series is back with another classic entry.

More information on all of these games (as well as a few others) can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog.

Game Critics Awards has announced their Best of E3 2014 nominees

evolve-header

The Best of E3 2014 nominees are in, and Evolve is currently leading the pack with six nominations (Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Game, and Best Online Multiplayer). The rest of the Best in Show games all have multiple nominations as well – Alien: Isolation, Batman: Arkham Knight, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, No Man’s Sky, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege. After all the attention it’s gotten, I’m surprised Sunset Overdrive isn’t on that list, but it’s on a few others.

Check out the full list of nominees after the jump.

Watch Dogs Review: A Bit Ruff

watchdogs-header

Watch Dogs was unveiled in 2012 at Ubisoft’s E3 Press Conference to the adoration of the entire industry. Over the past year, the Internet hype machine went into full effect, fueled by Ubisoft themselves and the fervor of online commenting communities. After that initial reveal, conjecture naturally sprung up around the web. Would the game look that good? Would the open world really be that open? With Ubisoft sending out trailer after trailer, Watch Dogs was labelled as a coming-of-age party for the next generation in terms of graphics and gameplay.

But the hype train is a bad one to catch, and it has not helped Watch Dogs, making it feel far less than it should be after the initial reveal. After experiencing much of the game’s content, what you end up with is a title that is actually still quite fun to play, but oddly uncompelling.

Civilization Revolution 2 will be released for iOS devices next week

civilizationrevolution

I know that image is from the Xbox 360 version of Civilization Revolution, but I liked it, so I’m sticking with it. Anyway, 2K Games has announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 will be released on iOS on July 2, which is really soon. According to the press release, which you can see after the jump, it will be coming soon to Android devices as well.

This seems like a pretty rational move for the company, which released the first game on iOS after having a run on consoles and handhelds. The sequel has been developed exclusively for mobile devices, and promises it will be ” delivering high-impact graphics and new gameplay and controls that capitalize on the mobile technology advancements since the original Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution launched more than five years ago.”

Hit the jump for the full press release.
