The 90s Arcade Racer development is going well; Summer 2014 launch planned

ArcadeRacerThere’s been an update about The 90s Arcade Racer over at Nicalis news blog. The developer is excited to announce that porting the game from PC to Wii U is going well, despite having its “fair share of challenges.” There are a few things that aren’t translating to Wii U (and likely won’t be able to work on other consoles, either).

However, the developers have emphasized that “fidelity, image quality and a smooth framerate are our priorities,” and they are happy so far. The main goal for them is to make a “fun arcade experience,” and they want for there to be 30 cars you can race against in each race.

There’s no release date yet, but Nicalis’ goal right now is a mid-2014 release for The 90s Arcade Racer on the PC and the Wii U.

NIS America has released a new trailer for The Witch and the Hundred Knight

In The Witch and the Hundred Knight, you play as the Hundred Knight whose goal is to spread the swamp for your witchy master. You explore the world, fight enemies, and spread the swamp, all while making sure your calorie count stays up. There are a few ways to do that, but so far it looks like the best way is by eating your enemies.

The wacky Witch and the Hundred Knight will be published by NIS America on the PlayStation 3 on March 25, 2014.

Steam version of Ikaruga will include side-scrolling mode and other additions

ikaruganew

Treasure, the developers of classic game Ikaruga, will be bringing their much-loved game to the PC soon with some extra goodies. This announcement comes in the wake of their reveal about a new PC game they’re working on. While we wait for that, we get to play Ikaruga with a few changes.

The PC version of the game will have “a new mode with a horizontal screen orientation,” according to Siliconera. It also has a new Double Play Mode, in which you can use one controller to control two ships.

Ikaruga will also take advantage of Steam’s ranking and Cloud features, among others. It will be available on Steam “soon” at the price of $9.99. You probably won’t have any trouble running it, but if you’re worried, here are the system requirements.

Square Enix teaches you how to stay stealthy in “Thief 101” trailer

The Thief series is one of the premier stealth-action game franchises of all time. The first installment, Thief: The Dark Project, revolutionized the genre by adding light and sound mechanics to the stealth elements. The game spawned two sequels, but after Thief: Deadly Shadows was released in 2004, fans began to wonder if the series was gone for good.

Nearly a full decade later, gamers are finally going to get their hands on the next Thief game, which seeks to reboot the franchise and bring it into the next generation of gaming. A trailer was released earlier today that details a number of different gameplay mechanics, including use of the bow, an overview of the stealth aspects, and character progression. While the game is being developed by Eidos Montreal (Deux Ex: Human Revolution), it’s nearly impossible not to compare the upcoming title to Bethesda’s recent release, Dishonored.

Of course this isn’t a bad thing. Dishonored proved that there is still a large market for successful stealth action games, and there is no bigger name in stealth action than Thief. It looks like Eidos is doing a wonderful job with the reebot, and I’m sure gamers everywhere are expecting great things when its released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on February 25.

NBA 2K15, WWE 2K15 to be released for next-gen this Fall; GTA V on PC still MIA

taketwo-logo2K Games has announced that NBA 2K15 and WWE 2K15 are currently in development for release next Fall on next-generation consoles. It’s currently unknown if either game will also be released for last-generation systems like the PS3 or the Xbox 360, but Karl Slatoff, the President of Take Two Interactive, revealed that it’s a very real possibility during the company’s quarterly conference call:

“In terms of the old gen versus new gen question, I would say that any of our announcements that we have made to date don’t necessarily reflect our plans whether something is going to be specifically for next get or old gen. It really is more a function of what we have announced, what platforms we have announced that they are going to be on at this point. […] We have haven’t said anything about our NBA titles — our sports titles — but for next gen platforms. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are not going on current gen, rather we are going on current gen, it’s not related at this point. It just means we haven’t had anything to share.”

Slatoff also shot down all the Grand Theft Auto V on PC rumors, saying, “At this point there is really nothing for us to say about that.”

Hopefully, the time to say something “about that” will be soon.

Daily Scoop: February 4, 2014 – Saving the day

Don’t worry, everyone! I just spent a lot of money on some brand new snow boots, which means it’s not going to snow for another three years. That’s just how my luck works: now that I’m prepared, I’ll never need to be prepared. So get ready for spring! (Take that, Phil!)

Just in case I’m wrong, though, you can still grab some deals for when you’re snowed in. Take Two: 10 next-gen games in development, more Borderlands 2 DLC on the way

borderlands2-header

As we first reported back in September, 2K Games has announced plans to release more downloadable content for Borderlands 2 in 2014. I guess the three “Headhunter Packs” (and the rest of the game’s DLC expansions) were quite successful.

Here’s what Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had to say about Gearbox’s future DLC plans for Borderlands 2 during yesterday’s quarterly conference call:

“Borderlands 2 is a prime example of how we are able to generate substantial revenue and profits from add-on content over an extended period. In the 16 months following the title launch, we released nine substantial downloadable offerings, dozens of smaller character customizations, and we have plans to release more downloadable content in the coming months.”

Zelnick also reconfirmed that the publisher has more than ten titles in development for next-generation consoles:

“Looking ahead, we have a robust pipeline for both new intellectual properties and offerings from our proven franchises in development including more than ten unique titles for the next-generation consoles.”

This Fall’s Evolve, a co-op shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, will likely be the next next-generation title released by 2K Games.

Murdered: Soul Suspect also coming to PS4; June 2014 release date announced

As expected, Square Enix and Airtight Games have announced that Murdered: Soul Suspect will be released for the PS4 in addition to the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. To celebrate this announcement, they’ve released a new trailer, “Every Lead,” and confirmed that the game will be available for all platforms sometime this June.

If you opt for the next-generation edition of Murdered, here’s what improvements you can expect to find alongside the game’s ghostly detective:

The new console versions will offer increased visual fidelity via native 1080p output. Elements such as subsurface scattering and an increased particle count will depict an even more immersive ghost world and cast as players guide slain Salem detective Ronan O’Connor on a quest to find his killer and escape the limbo-like world of Dusk.

Yesterday, Microsoft’s Major Nelson toured Airtight’s studio to get a behind-the-scenes look at Murdered: Soul Suspect.
