VGX 2013 Trailer: No Man’s Sky

The biggest surprise… scratch that, the ONLY surprise… of this year’s VGX Awards was the “World Premiere” trailer for Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky. Created by a four-person team within the Joe Danger devleoper, No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated exploration that wants to give us the land… and the ocean… and the sky… and outer space… and the whole universe beyond. There’s first-person shooting and space battles and sand worms and it looks crazy ambitious and no one has any idea what platforms its in development for or when it’ll be released.

Hello Games, you have my attention.

VGX 2013 Trailer: Game of Thrones

Wow, Telltale gets to play in everybody’s sandbox don’t they? After creating games based on beloved properties like The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, and Monkey Island, the company has moved on to develop their Fables adaptation, The Wolf Among Us, as well as the recently announced Tales From the Borderlands. And last night’s VGX Awards offered up one more Telltale surprise: a Game of Thrones adventure game, which will be based on the HBO series.

Game of Thrones: The Telltale Series is still extremely early in development, but you can expect to play the first episode in 2014.

Naturally, the trailer is suitably epic (THE MUSIC!) and gives us a nice glimpse at what to expect for their “shared world shooter” next year.

VGX 2013 Trailer: Thief

“Robes. Robes are always a bad sign.”

Garret, the star of Eidos Montreal’s Thief, doesn’t have a high opinion of cultists performing arcane rituals. And I can’t say I blame him. But you’ll definitely have a high opinion of this “World Premiere” trailer for the game, which debuted at last night’s VGX Awards.

Thief will be published by Square Enix on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 25, 2014. The game will also be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on the same date.

VGX 2013 Trailer: Broken Age

Double Fine’s Broken Age already had a pretty extensive voice cast (including Jack Black, Wil Wheaton, and Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos) before the release of the “World Premiere” trailer at this year’s VGX Awards. But now we know that Elijah Wood, who is apparently a huge fan of point-and-click adventure games, will provide the voice of Shay, Broken Age’s main character. According to Tim Schafer, the decision to bring Wood aboard was originally worked out through Twitter.

The first half of Broken Age will be released through Steam’s Early Access program in January.
