Brain Age: Devil Training announced for 3DS in Japan

First things first: THIS GAME WILL NOT TEACH HOW TO SUMMON THE DEVIL. With that out of the way…

Nintendo has unleashed a flurry of huge announcements today, but I might be most excited for the new Brain Age title they’ve announced for Japan. It’s currently without a title, but the game has been codenamed Brain Age: Devil Training due to its insane difficulty.

Just look at Dr. Kawashima throwing the horns!

Brain Age: Devil Training will feature all new exercises including “Concentration” and “Working Memory,” and it’ll be out for the 3DS in Japan this Summer. A North American release will surely follow sometime after that.

XBLA Today: Alan Wake’s American Nightmare

After successfully launching the PC version of Alan Wake last week, Remedy turns their attention back to the Xbox 360 with this week’s addition to the Xbox Live Arcade: Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.

Priced at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), American Nightmare should make fans of the original Alan Wake very happy:

In this brand new standalone experience, Alan Wake fights the herald of darkness, the evil Mr. Scratch! A thrilling new storyline, hordes of creepy enemies, serious firepower and beautiful Arizona locations, combined with a fun and challenging new game mode make this a must for Alan Wake veterans, and the perfect jumping on point for new players! Play the full-fledged Story Mode, and you’ll be on the edge of your seat as you fight to stop your murderous evil double to take back your life… and change reality itself! But there’s more to this nightmare – in the action-packed Arcade Mode, you’ll need to master the Fight with Light mechanic to stay alive until dawn and beat your friends on the Leaderboards. Can you survive until sunrise?

American Nightmare is the second game in this year’s XBLA House Party promotion. So remember, if you purchase all four House Party titles, you’ll receive a rebate of 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Borderlands 2 trailer, “Doomsday,” dates the game, rips your face off

I don’t often say this, and I don’t usually put much stock in trailers, but damn. I’ve got goosebumps after watching that trailer. I nearly joypuked at my desk. I’m so looking forward to Salvador, Maya, Axton, and, uh, Zero the invisible ninja. This trailer is bigger than life. There’s still going to be four-player co-op, you can catch a new ride (come on get you one!), and there will be more skills – “for the payment of bigger bills.” There’s also a brand new baddie, a tyrant named Handsome Jack, who seems to have some sort of Death Star device. It’s no joke that “we’re gonna need a lotta guns.”

Borderlands 2 will be out on September 18 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready to get back to Pandora.

Xenoblade Chronicles finally out in US on April 6; XSEED to publish The Last Story

Operation Rainfall supporters, take a bow.

Nintendo has announced that Xenoblade Chronicles will be released exclusively through GameStop on April 6. In addition to the release date, Nintendo has revealed that the game will be packaged in the beautiful (and fan-chosen) wraparound cover to your left. Click on the cover to get a larger look at it.

But that’s not all! Nintendo also announced that XSEED has picked up the North American publishing rights to The Last Story. No release date was announced, but it’ll be available this year, sometime after the release of Xenoblade Chronicles.

“Together, these two games level up the excitement for RPG fans in America,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “Whether roaming the vast landscape of Xenoblade Chronicles or choosing crossbows to battle with or against companions in The Last Story, gamers will recognize these titles as benchmarks for the genre.”

Is Pandora’s Tower next? I’d bet good money we’ll see it sometime before the end of 2012.

Atlus confirms US release of Persona 4: Arena

The Internet figured it out last week, but Atlus has just announced a North American release for the Persona fighting game Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, which they will bring to America as Persona 4: Arena.

Originally available only in Japanese arcades, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Persona 4: Arena are scheduled for a Summer 2012 release with console-exclusive story and online modes. And if you’re worried about Atlus’ lack of experience in the fighting game sphere, don’t be, Persona 4: Arena is being co-developed by Arc System Works (creators of the BlazBlue series).

And be sure to click on the image to your left to see Atlus’ full message to their Faithful about Persona 4: Arena with all the initial juicy details.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out rebuilds Springfield on iOS this year

Just don’t call it SpringfieldVille!

Electronic Arts plans to bring another city-building freemium game to the iOS this year with The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Like Zynga’s CityVille, the game encourages iOS users to erect their own virtual Springfield by purchasing buildings with in-game currency (in this case, donuts). As with CityVille, doughnuts can be purchased with real money to speed up the process of rebuilding Springfield.

That’s right, I said “rebuilding.” Homer has caused (another) meltdown at the Nuclear Power Plant, leveling the town. Thankfully, we don’t have a “Day of the Mutants” situation. In fact, no one has been hurt at all. Best of all, they even offer to help Homer fix things. The entire Simpsons family, Duffman, Hans Moleman, and many more of Springfield’s citizens will lend a hand to place a building or complete a quest.

To further capture that authentic Simpsons feel, EA has recruited the show’s writers and voice actors.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be released as a free download for the iPad and iPod Touch/iPhone “in the coming weeks.” An Android version is also in development and will be released a few months after that.

Daily Scoop: February 21, 2012 – …and then I took an arrow to the knee

I, for one, am tired of the whole “arrow to the knee” meme, and I haven’t even played Skyrim yet. Does that just make me a jerk? Possibly. Do I care? Not really.

What I do care about are deals! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Disney Princess: Magical Jewels on the DS. It’s just $9.99 today, which is 50% off the regular price. Scoop it up and you, too, can be a pretty, pretty princess!

Also, GameFly is having a big under $20 blowout sale on their used games! The sale includes some pretty good deals, like Brink for $6.99 on the Xbox 360, Gears of War 2 for $7.99, F.3.A.R. for $9.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and Tron: Evolution – Battle Grids for the Wii. Check it out!

Today’s video game t-shirt is a tired meme I may have alluded to already…
