Xbox Store Today: Resident Evil 7, TowerFall Ascension, Moto Racer 4

It doesn’t feature any familiar characters or shambling hordes of zombies… but the Resident Evil franchise is back. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is now available to download for the Xbox One through the Xbox Games Store and it asks players to explore a creepy plantation in Louisiana in a brand new first-person viewpoint. Don’t worry, a fine family of cannibals is more than willing to give you a tour.

Also available to download from the Xbox Games Store today is TowerFall Ascension. Matt Thorson’s multiplayer archery competition has made its way to the Xbox One alongside the Dark World expansion and the complete single-player campaign.

Finally today, Milestone will bring the arcade thrills of Moto Racer 4 to the Xbox One. Featuring tracks from across the globe, players will be able to race for the checkered flag in single-player and multiplayer modes.

More information about this trio of games can be found after the break.

It’s Batman versus Robin in the latest Injustice 2 trailer

It’s hard to have a normal childhood when your mother is an immortal assassin and your father is The Dark Knight. So while Damian Wayne has caught some bad breaks, he’s also Robin, and he’s all set to join NetherRealm’s Injustice 2 as a brand new playable character.

Using the ninja skills he learned from his father and the sword his mother gave him, Damian is a formidable opponent in the latest trailer for Injustice 2. Batman even tries to impart his “No Killing” code on his son, but unfortunately, things don’t turn out well for the Caped Crusader.

NetherRealm is currently testing Injustice 2 with a Closed Beta, so keep an eye on your inbox for an invite. For the rest of us, the fighting game will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on May 16.

The organizers of the SXSW Gaming Conference and Festival have announced the nominees for the 2017 SXSW Gaming Awards. Not surprisingly, Dishonored 2, Doom, Overwatch, Titanfall 2, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will all be competing for the coveted “Video Game of the Year” award.

Appearing over and over again throughout SXSW 2017’s 23 categories, the nominating committee was very impressed with these five titles. Resident Evil 7, Yakuza 0, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, more added to PS Store

It’s a big week for the PlayStation Store as developers and publishers plan to add more than a dozen new games to the digital storefront this week…

Let’s start things off with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the latest game in Capcom’s long-running zombie saga. Resident Evil 7 promises to switch things up on the PS4 and many of the franchise’s most familiar characters won’t make an appearance in the game. However, there is a deranged family of cannibals to deal with, and full PlayStation VR support for the first-person horror title.

PS4 owners interested in a different sort of wild ride might want to look into Yakuza 0, which will travel back to the beginnings of Sega’s gangland tale. Players will learn all about how Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima got their start in the Yakuza, and they’ll experience the “unbridled decadence” of Tokyo in the 1980s.

Also available this week is a trio of RPGs that will most likely offer more uplifting stories. Square Enix has remade Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (previously a 3DS exclusive) for the PS4 as Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. Bandai Namco will expand the Tales series with the pirate-themed PS4 adventure Tales of Berseria. And Snowcastle Games will bring their retro-inspired RPG, Earthlock: Festival of Magic, to the PS4 later this week.

More information on all of these games can be found after the break.

WB Games reopens Disney Infinity developer to work on Cars 3 tie-in game

Last May, Disney announced the closure of Avalanche Software and the cancellation of all future installments in the Disney Infinity franchise. However, today, WB Games revealed that they’ve reopened Avalanche Software and signed a deal with Disney to create a console game based on Cars 3, the next animated film from Pixar.

John Blackburn, the architect behind the Disney Infinity franchise, will once again step up to lead Avalanche Software in its newest incarnation.

“It is a tremendous pleasure to welcome Avalanche Software into our development stable, and we look forward to working with our new team, Pixar Animation Studios, and Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media to create Cars 3 based on the upcoming film and hugely popular franchise,” said David Haddad, the President of WB Games. “The Avalanche talent and technology are a great addition to our group of outstanding developers, and we are excited for this Cars 3 game as well as all of the future games the team will create under John’s leadership.”

WB Games didn’t announce a release date for Cars 3: The Game, but presumably it’ll appear on store shelves shortly after the film’s June 16, 2017 release date.

Daily Scoop: January 24, 2017 – Crypt of the NecroDancer on sale at Steam

I played a bunch of games yesterday, including Magicka 2, which is just so absurd sometimes that I can’t even deal with it. I’m also trying to figure out if I want to play the Dishonored DLC now that I’ve beaten the main game, or move on to another game. Decisions, decisions!

Speaking of decisions, there are some game deals today that might call for some decisions! There’s a Codemasters Winter Sale happening at the Humble Store. Dirt Rally is $23.99, Grid 2: Reloaded Edition is $12.49, F1 2014 is $7.49, and Overlord is $1.24, among others.

There are some great deals happening at Steam as well. The Midweek Madness right now is Crypt of the NecroDancer, which is on sale for $3.74 by itself, or for $25.80 if you want the Ultimate Pack Bundle. And the Daily Deal is Magicka 2, which, as I mentioned above, is totally bonkers! I highly recommend it. It’s $3.74 for the game, $6.24 for the Deluxe Edition, and $12.49 for four copies of the regular game.
