Square Enix loves PAX West and the Japanese megapublisher will once again have a major presence at the Seattle-based convention.

The publisher’s booth will include a dozen demos, including some of this Fall’s biggest releases (Dragon Quest Builders, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and World of Final Fantasy). Square Enix also plans to demo 2017’s biggest re-release, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.

But if you want to get up close and personal with your favorite developers, a series of panels from the publisher will give you your chance. Friday will focus on Deus Ex Go and Final Fantasy XV, while Saturday’s presentations will dive deep into Final Fantasy XV, World of Final Fantasy, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

A complete look at all of Square Enix’s demos and panels can be found after the break. And don’t forget, the 2016 PAX West expo will kick off on Friday, September 2.

Latest Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mini-trailer focuses on Runes

thelegendofzeldabreathofthewild-header

It’s time for another Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mini-trailer, which is now available courtesy of Nintendo of Europe’s Twitter feed.

This time, Nintendo has given us a quick look at a few of the game’s Runes, beginning with one that grants Link the ability to create platforms by freezing water. Other Runes on display include the Magneto-like power of the Magnesis Rune, a Rune that forms exploding orbs, and a Gambit-like energy transfer ability that’ll let Link calculate the trajectory of an exploding object.

It’s still early days for Breath of the Wild, but it looks like the Hero of Time might actually be the Superhero of Time:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and NX sometime in 2017. But let’s hope we get a lot more of these mini-trailers between now and then.

Allison Road gets un-canceled by developer Christian Kesler

allisonroad-header

Allison Road, a first-person horror game partly inspired by Hideo Kojima’s PT/Silent Hills, was canceled under mysterious circumstances by developer Lilith and publisher Team17 back in June. However, yesterday, project lead Christian Kesler told IGN that the game is back in development… though it might be a very long time before we see the finished product.

Part of the reason for Allison Road’s under-the-radar return is that Kesler has decided to continue working on the game by himself:

“For our gameplay trailer, I did all the modeling, texturing, shaders, lighting, etc., and thankfully a lot of the mechanics are already implemented from the previous development phase, so I can comfortably take the game forward by myself,” Kesler told IGN. “If and when it comes to a point where new features and mechanics are required, or old ones need changing, I’ll go look for support.”

Kesler explained that his desire to resurrect Allison Road partially came about after an extended break and a reevaluation of the game’s progress so far:

“It did take a bit of soul searching to find the drive again to work on Allison Road and to simply make a call on what to do next,” Kesler told IGN. “After the set back, I took a bit of a break from working on it and re-evaluated all the work that had been done so far — the whole journey, so to speak. I started making a few (in my opinion) necessary changes to the story and the flow, little bits and pieces here and there, and before I knew it, it sort of naturally came back to life.”

Allison Road is currently in development for the PC and will be released as soon as Kesler can finish it (which, again, likely won’t be anytime soon).

Madden NFL 17, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, King of Fighters XIV, more added to PS Store

While the fourth quarter is still ahead of us, publishers are running up the score with today’s PlayStation Store update.

Let’s start things off with Madden NFL 17, the latest entry in EA Sports’s long-running football franchise. A rebuilt Franchise Mode is the focus of this year’s game, which is now available to download for the PS4 and PS3. Developer EA Tiburon is also touting improvements to the gameplay on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Also available to download for the PS4 this week is Square Enix’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The latest game from Eidos Montreal picks up where Deus Ex: Human Revolution left off and explores the aftermath of a terrorist attack that’s left mechanically augmented humans “deemed outcasts and segregated from the rest of society.”

And if you think elective surgery to become some kind of cyborg is crazy, then the future portrayed in The King of Fighters XIV is just as wild. More than 50 humans, robots, demons, and monsters have come together to compete in a new fighting tournament from developer SNK and publisher Atlus on the PS4.

Finally this week, a trio of side-scrollers will surely appeal to retro-minded PS4 owners. Inside is a mysterious platformer from Playdead, and after a short round of Xbox One/PC exclusivity, it’s now available to download through the PlayStation Store. Inside shares a minimalist aesthetic with Metrico+, a PS4 platformer that was inspired by infographics. And Worms W.M.D. brings the strategy series to the PS4 for the first time.

More information about all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. And don’t forget to visit the PlayStation Blog for a complete rundown of this week’s new add-ons and discounts.

The Witness will be released for the Xbox One on September 13

thewitness-header

After being outed by the ESRB all the way back in January, Jonathan Blow has revealed The Witness is officially coming to the Xbox One. Speaking to IGN, the developer confirmed the game will make its Xbox One debut on September 13.

“There are some technical differences, but it’s basically the same game,” Blow told IGN, dismissing the idea of platform-exclusive content for The Witness.

“I feel like that would kind of… mess up the game,” he continued.

The Witness is also in development for iOS, but it might be a while before its released, as Blow said his team will need to fine-tune the entire game to make it work well with mobile devices.
