See Tommy Jarvis in the latest Friday the 13th: The Game trailer

Jason Voorhees has been killed nearly a dozen times over the years, but only Tommy Jarvis can claim to have taken out the serial killer more than once.

Originally played by Corey Feldman in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Tommy managed to turn Jason’s own machete against him and put him in the morgue… at the time it was even supposed to be permanent. However, the slasher icon would return in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, after Tommy accidentally reanimates him with a bolt of lightning (Whoops!). This battle will play out again in Gun Media’s Friday the 13th: The Game, which will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2017.

Actor Thom Matthews played Tommy in Jason Lives, and he’s all set to reprise his role for Friday the 13th: The Game. You can get your first glimpse at the character in the new trailer embedded above.

Friday the 13th: The Game delayed to Early 2017 to add single-player campaign and Tommy Jarvis as playable character

fridaythe13th-header

Today is October 12th, and even though there’s almost three weeks left in the spookiest month of the year, I long ago assumed that Gun Media and Illfonic would be forced to move Friday the 13th: The Game from its previously-announced “October 2016” launch date. Today, they made that delay official… but they also announced so much more.

First, the developers confirmed that a single-player campaign (with bots and missions based on the film franchise) is in the works and will be available as a free post-launch update next Summer. The base game, which will include the multiplayer portion of the game and three maps (including the newly-announced Packanack Lodge from Friday the 13th Part 2) will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Early 2017. Finally, a PC-only Beta will be available sometime this Fall for everyone who pre-ordered the game.

The expanded scope of Friday the 13th: The Game has also lead Gun Media and Illfonic to include Tommy Jarvis (Jason’s nemesis from The Final Chapter, Part V, Part VI, and Part VII) as a playable character.

“The first thing people are going to read here is delay,” said Wes Kelter, Gun Media’s Studio Head. “We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We’ve been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn’t ignore our fans.”

More information about the delay, the single-player campaign, and the Beta is available in the latest Kickstarter update for Friday the 13th: The Game from the developers.

Watch Jason Voorhees get 13 kills in Friday the 13th: The Game’s PAX West 2016 trailer

Triskaidekaphobiacs beware… Gun Media and Illfonic are back with a brand new trailer for Friday the 13th: The Game, which was unveiled yesterday at PAX West. Jason Voorhees doesn’t waste any time during the three-minute clip, as the slasher legend manages to deliver an impressive 13 kills during its running time. And yes, that means he averaged a kill roughly every 13 seconds.

All of Jason’s kills in Friday the 13th: The Game were designed by Tom Savini, the same special effects wizard who supplied the gory makeup for Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. If it’s possible, his work on Friday the 13th: The Game looks to be even more brutal and splatter-tastic than the original films. Needless to say, if you’ve got an aversion to blood and gore, I would recommend you NOT watch this trailer.

Friday the 13th: The Game is expected to be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this October.

You can run… but you can’t hide… from this Friday the 13th gameplay trailer at E3 2016

With Mrs. Voorhees encouraging him every step of the way, Jason Voorhees ruthlessly stalks the counselors at Camp Crystal Lake in the first gameplay trailer for Friday the 13th. Jointly developed by Gun Media and Illfonic, Friday the 13th is a 7v1 asymmetrical multiplayer title where one player takes control of the unstoppable killing machine, and the remaining players hide as helpless camp counselors.

In the E3 2016 trailer embedded above, we can see Jason using his teleportation powers to warp to a counselor’s location. But the counselors can try to fool Jason, as you can one attempts to open a window and then hide under the bed. Unfortunately, your average camp bed isn’t machete-proof.

Friday the 13th is currently in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and should be released sometime this Fall.

See Higgins Haven from Friday the 13th Part 3 in the new Friday the 13th game

Developers from Gun Media and Illfonic were in attendance at PAX East on Friday to give congoers (and the rest of the world) their first real look at Friday the 13th: The Game. So snuggle up in your sleeping bag and sit around the fiery glow of your monitor as you watch Jason knock half a dozen times during a “Door Kill.”

During the one-hour panel, Gun Media’s Randy Greenback said that players should expect this kind of brutality from the slasher icon: “Jason will get stronger as the match progresses… We don’t want this game to be fair at all.”

The trailer also revealed a brand new location for the game… Higgins Haven from Friday the 13th Part 3. If you remember, the Higgins Haven barn is where Jason first became a hockey mask aficionado after replacing his tattered (and rather unfashionable) burlap sack. Because blueprints don’t exist for the farmhouse, the developers rewatched the film “hundreds of times” so they could recreate it exactly for the game.

In development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Friday the 13th: The Game is still on track for an October 2016 release. You can find an extended version of the “Hide and Seek” trailer, which the developers also premiered during the panel, after the break. (more…)

Developers of Friday the 13th will let us peer under Jason’s hockey mask at PAX East 2016

fridaythe13th-header

It looks like we’re going to get our first extensive look at Gun Media’s Friday the 13th game on a Friday… Friday, April 22, to be exact.

These secrets will be revealed during a PAX East panel for the game, “Friday the 13th: The Game – Pushing the Boundaries of Horror,” which will take place on the expo’s first day at 8:30 PM. Developers from Gun Media and Illfonic will be joined by former X-Play host Adam Sessler as they deliver their vision for the future of survival horror to the public:

Friday the 13th: The Game – Pushing the Boundaries of Horror
How do you shake up the horror genre while staying true to source material? Join Friday the 13th: The Game Co-Creators Ronnie Hobbs and Wes Keltner, Head Consultant Adam Sessler, Executive Director Randy Greenback, and Illfonic CEO Chuck Brungardt as they discuss how Friday the 13th: The Game plans to push the video game horror genre in new directions.

According to the game’s Twitter feed, codes for the upcoming beta test will also be given out during the panel.

And in other Friday the 13th news, it looks like the developers have partnered with the Friday The 13th Props Museum to ensure that Friday the 13th: The Game features a “screen accurate” depiction of Jason’s iconic hockey mask.

Friday the 13th: The Game is fully funded on Kickstarter

fridaythe13th-header

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! I hope you managed to avoid any black cat that might’ve cross your path or any ladder that you might’ve walked under. And definitely steer clear of Jason Voorhees, because this is his day… in more ways than one.

Just a few hours remain in the Kickstarter campaign for Gun Media’s Friday the 13th: The Video Game, but they’ve chopped through their initial goal of $700,000 and are tearing past Stretch Goals as we speak. Detailed in the campaign’s latest update, these Stretch Goals include bonus kills for Jason, new skins for the Counselors, a number of new Maps (including Manhattan), and an Offline Mode.

Congratulations to Gun Media and everyone else involved in the creation of Friday the 13th: The Video Game (including special effects wizard Tom Savini, actor Kane “Jason” Hodder, and composer Harry Manfredini). If all goes according to plan, Friday the 13th: The Video Game will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in October 2016.
