The Road to E3 2018: Sony’s Big Showcase… Featuring Death Stranding, Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, and More
The 2018 E3 Expo begins in exactly 18 days… so let the speculation begin! Today, we’re peering into our crystal ball at what Sony might have in store for gaming’s biggest showcase.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently made “a rare break from tradition” and gave fans an early glimpse at the four games they plan to highlight during their 2018 E3 Showcase. As usual, Sony will shine a spotlight on several cinematic single-player adventures, including Kojima Productions’s Death Stranding, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, and Insomniac’s Spider-Man. All four games are expected to launch later this year (though, full disclosure, only Spider-Man has an official release date), so Sony should have plenty to say. (more…)

Sony’s E3 2018 Showcase will feature previews of Death Stranding, Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part II
It looks like Sony wants to do things a bit different at this year’s E3 Expo. Over on the PlayStation Blog, the consolemaker has made “a rare break from tradition” and pre-announced the games that will take center stage at their E3 Showcase.
Drumroll, please.
Sony’s E3 Showcase will take place on June 11 at 6:00 PM (Pacific Time), and a team from Sony Worldwide Studios will provide “exclusive” previews of Kojima Productions’s Death Stranding, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II. A smattering of additional announcements from “third-party publishers and independent developers” will round out the show.
For fans watching at home, Sony’s E3 Showcase will be livestreamed in its entirety on Playstation.com, Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man will be released on September 7; Collector’s Edition also unmasked
Sony and Insomniac have announced that their highly-anticipated Spider-Man adaptation will be released exclusively for the PS4 on September 7. Insomniac’s James Stevenson swung over to the PlayStation Blog to reveal the good news, and also to talk a bit about the bonuses found in the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition.
Spider-Man’s Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99) will include the main game, along with access to a post-launch expansion (The City That Never Sleeps) that features “three new chapters each with new missions, new villains and characters, and additional suits for Spider-Man.” Fans who pre-order the game from Sony’s storefront will also receive a Limited Edition Collectible Pin (by mail) and the Spidey Suit Pack (which is highlighted in the trailer embedded above).
The Collector’s Edition ($149.99) will contain all the content from the Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as “a Steelbook case featuring the iconic white spider, Mini Artbook from Titan Books, and an awesome Marvel’s Spider-Man statue by Gentle Giant.”
Finally, a second Spider-Man trailer from Game Informer (promoting their upcoming in-depth coverage of the game) can be found after the break. (more…)

Insomniac shares some more story details about their upcoming Spider-Man game
We still don’t know what part Miles Morales will play in the game, but Insomniac shared some new story details for their upcoming Spider-Man adaptation on Twitter over the weekend.
According to the tweets, Peter Parker has been Spider-Man for eight years, and he built all of his own technology (unlike the Stark Industries suit Peter will wear in this week’s Spider-Man: Homecoming). Players will also do battle with The Kingpin in an early level, and later tangle with Mister Negative and his Inner Demons in back half of the game:

Insomniac’s Spider-Man will be released exclusively for the PS4 sometime next year.

Sony at E3 2017: Spider-Man Gameplay Trailer and 2018 release date revealed
Sony closed out their 2017 E3 Press Conference with a brand new gameplay trailer for Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man game. The playthrough showed off some of the webhead’s signature moves, as well as using upgraded web shooters in both stealth and combat mode. The pace quickly shifted from slow and stealthy to action-packed fights, then to jaw-dropping setpieces as Spider-Man pursued an out-of-control helicopter. And true to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, the trailer featured a really cool stinger.
Marvel’s Spider-Man hits the PlayStation 4 in 2018.

God of War 4, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, new Assassin’s Creed, multiple unannounced titles, more to be unveiled during E3 Coliseum
The full lineup of panels for Geoff Keighley’s inaugural E3 Coliseum has been announced, and it looks like the series will give fans a closer look at God of War 4, Assassin’s Creed 2017, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, and several other upcoming titles. Keighley will also offer a showcase to a few games yet-to-be-announced from Bethesda Softworks, Square Enix, and Epic Games.
If you won’t be attending this year’s E3 Expo, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to tune in as most E3 Coliseum panels will be broadcast through Facebook Live, Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube.
You can find the complete E3 Coliseum schedule after the break. (more…)
Insomnaic’s Spider-Man will likely be released in 2017
Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man game won’t be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’ll likely make its debut on store shelves alongside the wallcrawler’s first film adaptation from Marvel Studios. Ryan Penagos, the Vice President and Executive Editor of Marvel Digital Media, revealed that the game “is on the horizon for 2017” during an episode of THWIP! The Big Marvel Show.
However, the video was originally uploaded more than three months ago (it was the “Best of 2016” episode), and a lot can change in that amount of time. But Penagos sounds pretty confident, and this is the closest thing we’ve gotten to a launch window since Spider-Man’s announcement at E3 2016.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will open in theaters on July 6, and be available as a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Download sometime this Fall. Either one would be an excellent time for Insomniac to launch their Spider-Man game.
UPDATE: Insomniac replied to the hubbub on the Internet today with the following statement (via Twitter): “No release timeframe has been announced”.
While that’s true, I’d assume that Sony and Marvel are very interested in piggybacking on the extensive marketing campaign for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The developer might not be ready to announce a release date just yet (which means the game could slip to 2018), but 2017 sounds much more likely to me.
