Bethesda’s Vice President of Marketing, Pete Hines, has tweeted that Wolfenstein: The New Order has been delayed. The latest game in the series, in development at Sweden’s Machine Games, had previously been set for a Fall 2013 release. Due to a need for more polish, the game will now be released in 2014:

When it does finally make its way to stores, Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Hines has specifically ruled out a Wii U version, so Nintendo fans are out of luck.

Wolfenstein: The New Order sieg heils the Moon in this E3 2013 trailer

History took a detour after the Germans developed the atomic bomb first in the alternate universe of Wolfenstein: The New Order. New York City was bombed and the Statue of Liberty is no more. The only people crossing Abbey Road are German soldiers. Nazi flags hang from the U.S. Capitol and another has been planted on the Moon.

Thankfully, B.J. Blazkowicz is still around to set the world right and he’s ready to take on the Nazi war machine (which includes mechs and laser rifles, among other things) single-handed. You can get a glimpse at his battle for the first time in the game’s newly released E3 2013 trailer above.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is in development at MachineGames and will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Fall.

Wolfenstein: The New Order goose steps into stores this Fall

Doom 4 is still in limbo and no one knows what’s going on with the Quake series, but id’s other big FPS franchise, Wolfenstein, will return this Fall in an all new game.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and “next-generation consoles.” The game is in development at Machine Games, a relatively new studio founded in 2009 by a few former members of Starbreeze Studios.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be set in an alternate 1960 where the Nazis won World War II. Naturally, this doesn’t sit well with American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz and he sets off for Europe to take down the Third Reich’s war machine. And I mean that quite literally, the announcement trailer above shows Blazkowicz squaring off against a never-ending wave of goose stepping mechs.

“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere,” said Jens Matthies, Creative Director at Machine Games. “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”

According to Bethesda, additional details about the game will be released in “a series of exclusive feature stories” on GameSpot.com beginning tomorrow.
