Xbox Store Today: Kaiju Panic, Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition

xboxgamesstore-logoTwo new Xbox One games have been added to the Xbox Games Store today… and they couldn’t be more different.

Kaiju Panic is a strategy game where players take control of a field commander leading an anti-monster task force into battle. Like any good General, players will have to give orders to battle back the beasts while rescuing survivors and surveying damage. Don’t get stepped on!

Also available this week is Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition, a stark adventure game that is referred to as a “visual short story” by the developers. Players will step into the shoes of Kelly, a twentysomething woman who is trying to drive home. But a phone call makes the drive much more eventful than it normally is.

More information on both games can be found after the break. (more…)

Tales From the Borderlands: Episode 5 will be released on October 20

Telltale has announced that Tales From the Borderlands will come to its explosive end during the week of October 20 with the release of the fifth episode, The Vault of the Traveler. If the trailer embedded above is any indication, Rhys and Fiona are in some kind of trouble again, but hopefully a series of humorous shenanigans will help them escape. The complete release schedule for The Vault of the Traveler can be found right here:

  • Tuesday, October 20: PC/Mac, PS4, PS3
  • Wednesday, October 21: Xbox One, Xbox 360
  • Thursday, October 22: iOS App Store, Android’s Google Play Store, Amazon.com Appstore

And if you haven’t had a chance to take Tales From the Borderlands for a ride yet, Telltale wants to remedy that. The developer also announced yesterday that the game’s first episode, Zer0 Sum, is now available as a free download on consoles and mobile devices.

Laura steals Blanka’s thunder as the latest addition to Street Fighter V

Back in July, Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono unveiled a Brazilian stage for Street Fighter V and confirmed that a character announcement to go along with this locale would be announced at the 2015 Brasil Game Show. At the time, we all assumed Ono was referring to Blanka… especially since he made the announcement while surrounded by Blanka dolls. But it looks like Ono pulled a fast one as the game’s Brazilian combatant is actually a new character known as Laura. But don’t worry, she’s still got lightning powers.

Laura is also a master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, who uses her speed and strength as an expert grappler. The Capcom-Unity blog went into a bit more detail about her skillset:

About Laura
Joining the series from her homeland in Brazil, Laura Matsuda is a Jiu-Jitsu specialist, a first for the Street Fighter series. Continuing the tradition of the famed Matsuda fighting style, Laura is constantly looking for strong opponents around the world to defeat, in an effort to spread the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu’s name and prestige. Laura’s methodical grapple technique comes equipped with a stunning “Thunder Clap” projectile that zaps opponents and leaves them questioning if they should get in close, or keep their distance. Using a variety of quick moving attacks and effective command grabs, Laura will become a favorite for players who enjoy “up close and personal” mind games.

V-Skill: Linear Movement
By holding either back or forward and pressing Medium Punch + Medium Kick, Laura moves in the corresponding direction, getting her in and out of the opponent’s range at will. If no direction is held during the V-Skill activation, she will perform an overhead kick.

V-Trigger: Spark Show
Laura gets ready to zap the competition when she activates Spark Show. During her electrifying state, Laura’s Thunder Clap projectile flies further, she deals more stun on her attacks and grabs, and moves around further during her Linear Movements.

Laura will be playable as part of a new Street Fighter V that’ll be available all weekend long at the Brasil Game Show in Sao Paulo and New York Comic-Con in New York City. Street Fighter V will be released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.

Nintendo Download: Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, 3D Sonic 2, The Legend of Legacy, more

sonic-the-hedgehog-2It’s a big week for 3DS gamers as the latest Nintendo Download leans pretty heavily on the company’s handheld.

Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash brings the popular robot back for another adventure… this time in a side-scrolling platformer on the 3DS. Using his plug as a whip, Chibi-Robo will have to “grapple and zip through tricky, trap-ridden corridors.” Available to download tomorrow, a Chibi-Robo Amiibo figure will also be in stores this Friday, which should help with some of the grappling and zipping.

Also available this week is 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a remake of a game that is considered by many to be the greatest Sonic game of all time and the greatest game ever released for the Genesis. If you’ve forgotten why we all used to love Sonic, his second side-scrolling adventure will make it all clear.

Rounding out this week’s big 3DS bonanza is The Legend of Legacy, a new RPG from Atlus that’ll be available on Tuesday, October 13. In The Legend of Legacy, seven characters embark for a mysterious in search of “glory and treasure.” Sounds about right for an Atlus RPG.

But don’t think Nintendo forgot the Wii U this week. The company’s living room console is now home to two new Nindies… Race the Sun, an arcade racer; and Whispering Willows, a ghostly adventure game.

More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

Sony is dropping the price of the PS4 to $350

ps4-header

If you haven’t jumped onto the PS4 bandwagon just yet, now’s the time. Sony just announced a price cut for all PS4 bundles (via the PlayStation Blog) that will go into effect tomorrow, October 9.

The basic PS4 bundle will receive a permanent $50 discount, dropping from its current price of $399.99 to $349.99. This new pricing scheme also includes the upcoming bundles for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (available October 9) and Star Wars: Battlefront (available November 17).

Sony is also slashing the price on a trio of upcoming Limited Edition bundles. The Star Wars: Battlefront bundle with the amazing Darth Vader PS4, as well as the Disney Infinity: Star Wars bundle, will now be priced at $399.99 (originally $449.99). Both will be available in mod-November.

Finally, the 1TB PS4 included in the Call of Duty: Black Ops III bundle will be priced at $429.99, a $20 drop from the original $449.99 price. This Limited Edition will launch alongside Black Ops III on November 6.

This will be the first major price drop for Sony’s PS4, coming roughly a year after Microsoft’s temporary (and then permanent) price drop for the Xbox One.

Are you smart enough to watch Fallout 4’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video on Intelligence?

“Following total atomic annihilation, the rebuilding of this great nation of ours may fall to you. Study these materials carefully to ensure your survival and to discover what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.”

Bethesda has offered another lesson in surviving Fallout 4‘s Wasteland with the release of another entry in their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. series of educational videos. This time, the big brains at Vault-Tec have focused on Intelligence and the importance of a math. For example, did you know that “Imagination” plus “Science” equals “A Four-Barreled Shotgun that Shoots Nuclear Bombs”? It’s true!

At this point, I’m pretty convinced that all those Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoons from the 50s secretly take place in the Wasteland. Acme is clearly just a front company for Vault-Tec!

Fallout 4 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 10.

Capcom: “Stay tuned” for Resident Evil 7 news, but no plans for new Devil May Cry or Dragon’s Dogma 2

capcomlogo

Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation recently published its 600th issue, and the editors celebrated by publishing a far-reaching set of interviews with some of the country’s biggest developers. Thankfully, Siliconera has translated some of their more juicy chats, giving us an inside look at what Capcom is up to next.

For example, Resident Evil Producer Masachika Kawata revealed that Resident Evil 7 is still in the planning stages. He told Dengeki, “We’re currently not at a state to talk about it… but please stay tuned.”

Granted, that’s not a lot to go on. But it’s clearly in development, which is more than you can say for another entry in the Devil May Cry franchise or a single-player sequel to Dragon’s Dogma. Capcom Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi shot down both those possibilities by saying, “They’re […] things I’d like to personally do, but there are no plans [for now].” Kobayashi also put the kibosh on any new entries in the Sengoku Basara series.

Oh well, at least Capcom is delivering a steady stream of Street Fighter V news to us.

Xbox Store Today: Rock Band 4, Transformers Devastation, Elite Dangerous, more

rockband4-header

This week’s Xbox Games Store update is all about metal. Watch, I’ll show you…

After leaving the stage empty for the last five years, Harmonix has roared back with an encore for the famed Rock Band franchise. Rock Band 4 is now available to download for the Xbox One, provided that you’ve got a few plastic instruments lying around and you remember to purchase the required adapter.

Also available this week is Transformers: Devastation, a new action game from Platinum Games starring robots who are “more than meets the eye.” The gleaming metal designs of the game’s cel-shaded protagonists are based on the 1980s Generation 1 era… which is a first for Transformers games in North America. Transformers: Devastation is available for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Our last example of new metal on the Xbox Games Store is Elite: Dangerous, which has exited its “Preview” period and is now available as a full game for the Xbox One. Players start by spending a few credits on a small starship and then parlaying that small hunk of metal into a galaxy-spanning armada.

More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
