Lindsay Lohan actually sues Rockstar over supposed similarity to GTA5 character

grandtheftautov-box-largeBack in December, TMZ learned that Lindsay Lohan was threatening to sue Rockstar Games over her supposed likeness to one of Grand Theft Auto V‘s female characters. Today, Lohan made good on her threat and filed a lawsuit against the game developer in New York County Civil Court.

According to the Associated Press, Lohan is claiming that Rockstar created the character of Lacey Jonas using her image and voice, specifically citing “styles from her clothing line.” Jonas’ page on the GTA Wiki shows that she is an extremely minor character and beyond her career (actress) and relationship with the paparazzi (she doesn’t like them), she doesn’t appear to share any traits with Lohan.

Lohan also believes that a Chateau Marmont-like apartment building was included in the game because she once lived there. Now, I’m no law-talking guy, but I don’t think Lindsay Lohan can demand to exclude a building that kinda-sorta resembles one she used to live in from a video game.

Grand Theft Auto V was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 last September and a PC, PS4, and Xbox One release is planned for this Fall. Lohan is likely looking for a big payday as the game generated more than $800 million in sales on its first day of availability on its way to becoming the best-selling game of 2013.

Assassin’s Creed 2015 will be developed by Ubisoft Quebec

assassinscreed-logoThe Assassin’s Creed franchise is on the move. Ubisoft has announced that lead development on the next Assassin’s Creed game, the currently untitled and unannounced Assassin’s Creed 2015, has begun at Ubisoft Quebec. Previously, Ubisoft Montreal had been the lead developer on every Assassin’s Creed game since the series began in 2007 (including this year’s Unity). And don’t worry, the publisher’s Quebec City studio is no stranger to the eternal battle between the Assassins and the Templars. They’ve provided creative assistance on the last five games in the franchise.

“Since 2010, our understanding of the franchise has increased each year,” says Nicolas Rioux, Managing Director of Ubisoft Quebec. “We were involved in Brotherhood. We were involved in Revelations. We were involved in Assassin’s Creed III. With AC III we were working on the biggest DLC for the franchise – The Tyranny of King Washington. After that we were also involved with Freedom Cry. We have the confidence of the brand team and also from Ubisoft to take leadership of an upcoming Assassin’s Creed title. The team is ready for the next big step.”

To better prepare themselves for their next big project, Rioux also said that Ubisoft Quebec is going on a hiring spree. The developer has plans to increase from 350 to 425 employees by the end of 2017. If you’re interested in joining Ubisoft Quebec (and working on Assassin’s Creed 2015), you should their Career Page at Ubisoft.com.

Doom 4 reveal will be “exclusive” to QuakeCon attendees

Remember when Bethesda announced that the first trailer for Doom 4 would be revealed at this year’s QuakeCon? Well, according to the Bethesda Blog, convention attendees will be getting an “exclusive” peak at the game’s debut trailer that the rest of us won’t ever be able to see. While I have my doubts that this trailer will never find its way online, Bethesda did say as much in their announcement:

“This an exclusive thing we are doing for attendees as part of our Annual QuakeCon Welcome presentation. We’ll have plenty more to show everyone at a later date, but we didn’t want another QuakeCon to go by without doing something special for the amazing QC community and id supporters that have been with us for more than 20 years.”

This year’s QuakeCon will be held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX from July 17 through July 20. Doom 4 (currently known only as “Doom“) is currently in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Square Enix has released a brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix that compares and contrasts the standard definition graphics of the original games with the remastered HD visuals of the PS3 remake. The trailer is also interactive, so viewers can jump between the SD version, the HD version, and a “Comparison” mode that puts both side-by-side.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix will include remade versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, as well as well as story cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded when it’s released on December 2.

evolve-header

Two of the most buzzed-about games going into the 2014 E3 Expo were Turtle Rock’s Evolve and Hello Games’s No Man’s Sky. Not surprisingly, both games cleaned up in this year’s Best of E3 2014 Game Critics Awards.

Evolve tallied four wins including “Best of Show,” “Best Console Game,” “Best Action Game,” and “Best Online Multiplayer.” No Man’s Sky traded on its unique reputation while on its way to winning “Best Original Game” and “Best Independent Game” as well as a “Special Commendation For Innovation.”

No other game was honored in multiple categories though Super Smash Bros. For 3DS was selected as “Best Handheld/Mobile Game” and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U took home “Best Fighting Game.”

Third-person spinoff Escape Dead Island will be available this Fall

Deep Silver is expanding the Dead Island universe again with the announcement of Escape Dead Island, a third-person action game that promises to reveal the origins of the zombie outbreak:

Escape Dead Island is a survival mystery that follows the story of Cliff Calo, who sets sail to document the unexplained events rumored to have happened on Banoi. Arriving on the island of Narapela, part of the Banoi archipelago, he finds that not everything is as it seems. Haunted by deja vu, Cliff will have to make sense of it all throughout the entire game – again and again. This story-driven adventure lets players delve into the Dead Island universe and unravel the origins of the zombie outbreak. Escape is only the beginning…

Melee combat will still be a big part of Escape Dead Island, but players will also have to fight for their sanity as Cliff suffers from delusions represented by “unique visual styles” when he is experiencing a break with reality. The debut trailer above gives us a taste of these delusions by depicting one of Cliff’s attacks with black-and-white flashes. If this sounds similar to a beloved GameCube game from 2002, that’s by design. Deep Silver’s Community Manager, Maurice Tan, wrote on Twitter that he sees “a bit of Eternal Darkness” in Escape Dead Island.

Escape Dead Island is in development at Fatshark and will serve as a bridge between Dead Island and Dead Island 2. It will be released this Fall for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
