Sony announces an even slimmer PS3 and Uncharted 3 GOTY bundle

As expected (by pretty much everyone), Sony has announced an even smaller and slimmer PlayStation 3 system at a pre-Tokyo Game Show event. The new rendition of the console looks very similar to the current PS3 Slim, but it now sports a ridged top. While retaining the same shape, the system itself is approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3.
The new PS3 will be available on September 25 as part of an Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Game of the Year Edition bundle. Priced at $269.99, it will include a 250GB hard drive and a voucher for more than $30 worth of bonus digital content to the free-to-play title Dust 514.
IF you already own a PS3 and are just interested in purchasing the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Game of the Year Edition, it’ll also be available on September 25 for a retail price of $39.99.
The even slimmer PS3 will also be available as part of an Assassin’s Creed III bundle on October 30. That package will include a 500GB hard drive and four exclusive Assassin’s Creed III levels.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z combines zombies, ninjas, and Keiji Inafune
Ninjas?… Love ’em!
Zombies?… Love ’em!
A zombified ninja who has to kill other zombies in his quest to take revenge on his killer, Ninja Gaiden‘s Ryu Hayabusa?… Oh my god, I love this idea so much!
Thankfully, it’s more than just an idea. Announced today at pre-Tokyo Game Show event, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is a collaboration between Team Ninja, Spark Unlimited, and Keiji Inafune’s Comcept. If that name sounds familiar, it should. Inafune is the creator of Mega Man as well as the zombie-riffic Dead Rising.
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is in development for an unspecified group of consoles and, hopefully, we’ll learn more about it soon.

Borderlands 2, Jet Set Radio, SSX, F1 2012, more added to PS Store

I guess Sony is definitely serious with this “PS3 Full Games” thing as they added two games to the PlayStation Store yesterday on the same day the disc-based versions were released. For all shooting and looting needs, Borderlands 2 is now available to download. And for all your open-wheel racing needs, there’s F1 2012.
Also available this week is the extreme snowboarding of SSX (the PS3 reboot, not the PS2 Classic), the extreme rollerblading of Jet Set Radio, and the extreme running of Feisty Feet. I’m sensing a theme Sony.
Hit the jump for all the details on these games (along with a few others) and hit up the PlayStation Blog for a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons and demos (including a demo of Resident Evil 6). (more…)

Do you expect me to talk? No Mr. Bond, I expect a Goldfinger mission in 007 Legends
Activision has made a few dubious film choices for 007 Legends, their decades-spanning history of the James Bond franchise. Moonraker, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and Die Another Day may have their moments, but they’re not considered the best of Bond by a long shot.
Thankfully, Activision’s final pick is the best Bond film of all-time… Goldfinger! The Fort Knox caper will include appearances from Auric Goldfinger, Oddjob, and Pussy Galore along with the crotch laser and a naked painted lady. Do you expect me to talk? Because if you do, I’ll say woohoo!
007 Legends will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 16 with a Wii U version scheduled for release in November.
Microsoft renews Killer Instinct trademark

Well this is a surprise. Microsoft has announced (via their PlayXBLA blog) that they’ve renewed the trademark to 90s fighting franchise Killer Instinct.
Killer Instinct was developed by Rare as an arcade showcase for the then-in-development Nintendo 64. A sequel followed in 1996, but the series has been rarely heard from since (Nintendo would release KI Gold in 1998). Microsoft purchased the rights to the franchise in 2002 along with their acquisition of the developer.
While PlayXBLA didn’t elaborate on what this trademark renewal means, the location of the announcement could possibly point to an Xbox Live Arcade re-release of the first two games in the series.
BioWare officially announces Dragon Age III: Inquisition

A third game in the Dragon Age series has been an open secret for more than a year now. But today, Electronic Arts and BioWare are ready to officially announce Dragon Age III: Inquisition.
Scheduled for release in late 2013 on unspecified platforms, BioWare plans to use DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine as the foundation for a brand new Dragon Age experience:
“The Dragon Age team has been working on Dragon Age III: Inquisition for almost two years now,” said Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal. “We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans. They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age III: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”
While Dragon Age III is deep in development, BioWare doesn’t plan to reveal more details until its “ready for the prime time.”

Wii U Deluxe Set is already sold out at GameStop

Were you hoping to pre-order a Wii U Deluxe Set from your friendly neighborhood GameStop? Well, if you wanted to pick it up on launch day, you’ve already missed your chance.
Speaking to The Verge, GameStop employees in multiple states have confirmed that the system’s premium package is sold out companywide. It’s currently unknown if the retailer will receive a second shipment of Deluxe Sets sometime after November 18. As of this writing, the Basic Set is still available for pre-order (but who knows for how long).
I expect Michael Pachter to describe the Wii U launch as “doomed” any minute now.
Weekly Warp-Up: We Want Wii U Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
Nintendo has finally fully pulled the curtain back on the Wii U. We now know that Nintendo’s next-generation system will be released on November 18 in both a Deluxe Set and a Basic Set. We also know the Deluxe Set will be priced at $350 while the Basic Set will retail for $300.
The two biggest surprises of the Media Event were the announcements of Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive and the reveal of Nintendo TVii. Much less surprising, but still exciting, was confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be availale on launch day.
And speaking of launch day, Nintendo also revealed that 21 titles will be available on November 18 alongside the new console, with another 30 set to release over the first three months of 2013. Oh, and most Wii U games will be priced at $60.
Was there any non-Wii U-related news this week? There most certainly was! Read all about it after the break. (more…)
