Big Brother banishes Watch Dogs to Spring 2014

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was one of this Fall’s most ambitious new games. Perhaps it was a bit too ambitious as the publisher has announced that the game will now be released in Spring 2014. The delay comes slightly over a month ahead of the game’s originally scheduled November 19 release date.
The development team issued the following statement to explain the delay:
Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.
We know a lot of you are probably wondering “why now?” We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
“It needs more time polish everything up,” the reason for every delay ever. When it’s finally released in Spring 2014, Watch Dogs will be available for the PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Pokemon X/Y sells four million copies in two days

This weekend’s worldwide launch of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y went quite well for Nintendo. It’s the first time a “main series” Pokemon game was simultaneously shipped to stores across the world and, according to Nintendo, over four million copies of the game were sold on Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself,” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.
Because the company has never attempted a simultaneous worldwide launch of a Pokemon game before, Nintendo wasn’t able to directly compare it to the sales of previous Pokemon games. But their internal estimates state that X and Y are definitely the fastest-selling 3DS games of all-time and are currently outpacing the sales of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 by 70%.
That’s not pocket (monster) change.

Ride the Pirate Ship and Magic Mountain in new Kingdom Hearts III trailer
Disney held their first D23 Japan Expo over the weekend and they used the opportunity to debut some new gameplay footage from Kingdom Hearts III. The PS4 and Xbox One RPG is still a long ways away, but you can watch as Sora does battle with the Heartless using the Keyblade and the Key Blaster while Donald and Goofy tag along. Later, the trio jaunts over to Disneyland/Disney World and rides the Pirate Ship and Big Magic Mountain.
It’s a magical place.

Microsoft and Penny Arcade team up for Killer Instinct: Pin Ultimate Edition
Microsoft still has no plans to release a disc-based version of their Xbox One launch title, Killer Instinct. But they’ve teamed up with Penny Arcade (specifically, artist Mike “Gabe” Krahulik) to produce a boxed version of the game known as the “Pin Ultimate Edition.”
Instead of a game disc, the box will contain a voucher for the “Ultra Edition” of the game, which includes all eight Season One characters and a downloadable version of the original Killer Instinct arcade game. Two “Pinny Arcade” pins designed by Krahulik, Jago and the Killer Instinct 3D Logo, will also be packaged with the Pin Ultimate Edition. Finally, the box will contain a display board for all 16 Killer Instinct pins. Additional pins will can be earned through in-game efforts, though some will be sold separately or available as part of future promotional activities.
The Killer Instinct: Pin Ultimate Edition has been priced at $59.99, a $20 premium over the digital-only Ultra Edition. It’ll also be released on November 29, a week after the launch of the Xbox One.

NetherRealm will bring brawler based on Batman: Arkham Origins to mobile devices
After creating successful mobile renditions of Batman: Arkham City Lockdown and Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios is returning with another iOS/Android brawler this month based on Batman: Arkham Origins.
Like the mobile version of Injustice, Batman: Arkham Origins will be a free-to-play brawler that uses visuals from the console version. Once again, players will tap on the screen to rain blows down upon some nameless henchman or one of the game’s eight assassin opponents. A row of special attack icons line the bottom of the screen, which should also look familiar to those who downloaded Injustice’s mobile adaptation.
Instead of unlocking additional DC Comics characters, players will be able to clothe the Caped Crusader in a series of new suits with different powers and abilities. Confirmed suits include costumes previously seen in storylines like “Red Son,” “Earth Two,” “Thrillkiller,” “The Liberty Files,” and “Batman Beyond.” Linking your Warner Bros. Interactive ID with the game will unlock some of these suits in the console edition of Arkham Origins.
Batman: Arkham Origins will be available to download from the iOS App Store in conjunction with the console edition’s October 25 release. The Android edition will be available sometime “this Holiday.”

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix officially coming to PS3 in 2014
Square Enix released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix to a strong fan reception last month and the publisher strongly hinted at continuing the series in a second compilation ahead of the release of Kingdom Hearts III. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that the Japanese RPG juggernaut announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix this morning.
The second ReMix collection will bring together the “Final Mix” versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Both games have been fully remade with “remastered high definition” visuals and the never-before-seen-in-America “Final Mix” content. The compilation will also include a Theater Mode to view the theatrical cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, which was originally released for the DS in 2011.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix will be available exclusively for the PS3 sometime in 2014.

Weekly Warp-Up: Editorial Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
The Warp Zoned staff has decided to explore the fine art of the editorial this week as Zackery Cote asks “Will The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds’ Item Shop Really “Transform” the Franchise?” and Andrew Rainnie, our UK Correspondent, explains “Why I’m Boycotting SimplyGames.”
However, the real question we should be asking is “How can a nine-year-old who snuck on an airplane blame Grand Theft Auto?” Actually, “How?” is not the right question. “Why?” is the right question. We’ll probably never know why, but he apparently did it anyway.
Hit the break for more news from the week that was (and none of it involves criminal activity). (more…)

New Releases: Skylanders Swap Force, Valhalla Knights 3, Zumba World Party, More

Activision’s mega-popular Skylanders series returns to stores today with Skylanders Swap Force, its third new entry in three years. The game will be available for the 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Naturally, a new wave of toys will also be available at your local toy store.
If you’re looking for something a little less Skylanders-y, XSEED is bringing the prison-set action RPG Valhalla Knights 3 to the Vita this Tuesday. It’ll be joined on store shelves by Majesco’s Zumba Fitness World Party (Wii U) and two additional titles from Activision: obstacle course sequel Wipeout: Create & Crash (3DS, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360) and hunting sim Cabela’s African Adventures (PSS, Wii, Xbox 360).
I tell you, the pending launch of two next-generation systems is really messing with the annual Fall gaming rush.
