DICE plays with Star Wars toys to help bring us an early look at Star Wars: Battlefront

“Do or do not. There is no try.”

Niklas Fegraeus is a Design Director at DICE and he has taken Yoda’s understanding of The Force to heart in developing Star Wars: Battlefront. He has encouraged his team to live and breath Star Wars in a way that most of us haven’t done since we were 12. In the course of developing the next Star Wars game, DICE visited the Lucasfilms archives to get an up-close look at the original models used to film the Star Wars trilogy and recreated the ice planet Hoth in their Swedish backyards.

All of this hard work has produced some very cool looking early footage of the game, which DICE has shared with us in this behind-the-scenes video. Star Wars: Battlefront is still a year away (a Spring 2015 launch is planned), but your E3 Expo won’t be complete until you watch this video.

Bethesda teases Doom 4 at E3 ahead of QuakeCon 2014 full reveal

Doom! Doooooom! Doooooooooooooooooom!

Bethesda Softworks has unveiled a teaser trailer for Doom 4 (which, like all reboots, will just be known by the singular Doom) at their E3 Press Conference. The minute-long teaser gives us our first look at the squishy skin and high-tech armaments of a Cyberdemon, but is otherwise short on gameplay.

That’s because this E3 announcement is actually just an appetizer ahead of Bethesda’s full reveal of the game, which will take place at QuakeCon 2014. This year’s QuakeCon will run from July 17 through July 20.

Doom 4 (sorry, not calling it Doom just yet) is the first Doom game in development at id Software without co-founder John Carmack, who left last year to join OculusVR. It’s in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One and is currently without a release date.

Grand Theft Auto V officially coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One this Fall

While Sony had the honor of announcing it during their E3 Press Conference last night, Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Fall. The new-generation remake will include “across-the-board graphical and technical improvements” which Rockstar believes will deliver “a stunning new level of detail.” Some of these tweaks and improvements include “increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions.”

What does this mean for gamers? Prettier graphics, mostly. And you can see just how pretty they are in the game’s latest trailer, According to Rockstar, the trailer was created using in-game footage captured on a PS4.

“Grand Theft Auto V looks and feels stunning enhanced by the power of these new platforms,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We can’t wait for players to experience a new level of detail to this massive world.”

The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V will also feature a video editor designed for “advanced movie-making.”

sonye32014-header

While the CG trailer for Mortal Kombat X was entertaining, fans were immediately clamoring for some footage of the game in motion. And during their E3 Press Conference, Sony delivered. We were treated to Scorpion and Sub-Zero battling it out along with two new characters, a demonic woman in a cloak and a giant carrying a little dude on his shoulders (Master Blaster?).

So here’s Mortal Kombat X, in all its bloody glory:

Ubisoft @ E3 14: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege announced

ubisofte32014-header

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot popped up at the end of the publisher’s E3 Press Conference with a big ending. Guillemot blew the roof off the building with the unveiling of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege. In a heavily-scripted gameplay video pulled from a multiplayer game, we see one team storm a house to rescue a hostage, while another team tries to take out their attackers.

“If you look at long-range battle, you will find Battlefield. If you’re looking for short-to-medium-range battle, you will find Call of Duty,” said Creative Director Xavier Marquis. “In the short range, no one exists but us.”

While the attackers appear to have more advanced tech to track their opponents, the defending team can barricade themselves into rooms by blocking windows and setting boobytraps. The game also appears to have totally destructible environments.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege currently has no release date, but will likely be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This means that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots is most likely no more.

FIFA 15 lets you “feel” the game on September 23

So, in case you didn’t know, I’m British. Therefore, I must love football soccer – right? Well, no. However, I do love actor, and totally cool dude, Idris Elba. It’s this fact which makes the FIFA 15 E3 trailer exciting to me.

If you don’t love Luther, FIFA 15 will apparently boast player emotions, allowing soccerballers to react to bad tackles, missed penalties, and fantastic goals – just like in real life. Of course, there will also be plenty of tweaks to the presentation including new bench reactions, sideline character animations, 10-man goal celebrations, and more. This is alongside prettier graphics, better AI, and some smaller added details, all of which will probably make for the best FIFA yet.

But, then again, EA says that every year. FIFA 15 will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and “other platforms” on September 23 (September 25 in Europe).

Now this is hidden treasure… Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris announced

Everyone expected to see a sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider at this year’s E3 Expo and Crystal Dynamics did not disappoint with Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, another Tomb Raider sequel announced today is a bit of a surprise. A welcome one, but a surprise all the same.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have announced Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, a sequel to 2010’s much beloved Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. The overhead puzzle platformer ups the number of co-op players to four and includes bigger setpieces all around:

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris takes place deep in the deserts of Egypt. In her new adventure, Lara must join forces with rival treasure hunter Carter Bell and imprisoned gods Horus and Isis, to defeat the evil god Set. As Lara and her companions fight the elements of nature across the sands and through ancient tombs, they will battle legendary deities and creatures of myth. With the fate of the world at stake, Lara must recover the fragments of Osiris to stop Set from enslaving all mankind.

No release date was announced, but we do know that Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be “Coming Soon” for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
