DrinkBox Studios has announced that their side-scrolling action game Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition will be available to download for the PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on July 1. In case you missed it last year, Guacamelee! stars a luchador named Juan Aguacate and follows his quest to save the President’s daughter from the evil undead controlled by Carlos Calaca.
The “Super Turbo Championship Edition” will add a variety of new features to the PS3/Vita original, including:

- New Game Areas – Players will ride boats through the Canal of Flowers to save a besieged fishing town, and avoid lava as they climb through the fiery Volcano
- New Boss – Face off against the deadly Trio of Death, a three-headed skeleton that lives in the Volcano, who helps the evil Carlos Calaca build his skeleton armies
- New Abilities – Maximize destruction with the powerful new INTENSO combat mode and dish out scrambled pain with powerful Chicken Bombs. Plus, swap dimensions independently in co-op play using the new Shadow Swap ability.
- New Enemies – Lethal new elite-class enemies that want to chokeslam luchadores to sleep
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition will be priced at $14.99 on all platforms.
There Are 400 Video Games In This 2014/2015 (and Beyond) Release Calendar

We were introduced (and in some cases, re-introduced) to a huge variety of games at the 2014 E3 Expo. So with that pioneer spirit in mind, the Warp Zoned staff compiled this list of 400 video games that are scheduled to be released between July 1, 2014 and the far, far future. We can’t promise that this calendar includes every game currently in production right now (in fact, we’re sure it doesn’t), but that doesn’t mean we can’t all pore over what’s next and get giddy at what this Fall, next year, and beyond will hold. Watch Dogs hacks its way into our hearts as the best-selling game of May 2014

We were already pretty aware of the fact that a lot of copies of Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 were sold in the last week of May. Now, the NPD Group has made it official by releasing their official report of the best-selling games of May 2014.
Not surprisingly, Watch Dogs took the gold while Mario Kart 8 had to settle for the silver. The top ten was populated by several other May releases including Wolfenstein: The New Order (#4) and Kirby: Triple Deluxe (#9). A retail release of Minecraft on the PS3 also pushed that game back into the top five (#5, to be exact).
According to Joystiq, the NPD Group also confirmed that the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One for the fifth straight month. You can view the complete top ten list from the month of May after the break. (more…)

Mario Kart 8 Review: Nintendo Is (Almost) Firing On All Cylinders With This Sequel

It’s a safe bet that the gaming public has some idea what to expect from a game whose title ends in a numeral that many people subconsciously pair with the phrase “Is Enough.” Such is the case with Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8. At a time in the franchise’s lifecycle when most publishers would attempt to hide how long the series has been running with a clever subtitle, Nintendo comes right out and says, “Yeah, this is the eighth Mario Kart game, you wanna make something of it?” (more…)

Nintendo is planning side-scrolling and first-person Metroid games
While there was no talk of the Metroid franchise at E3, Stephen Totilo of Kotaku had an interesting interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi of Nintendo. Totilo pointedly asked them what was going on with the Metroid franchise, and what fans could hope to expect. Miyamoto deferred to Takahashi, who currently works with the creators and directors from the Metroid series. Takahashi had this to say:
“So it has been a while since we released the last one and we’re having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them.”
This seems to indicate that a new game, or at least a new announcement, might be coming to us soon (perhaps during Tokyo Game Show?).
When asked by Totilo which one they preferred, Takahashi said he liked them both, and Miyamoto said he prefers Prime. I think this entire conversation is adorable.

Bayonetta 2 coming in October; includes Bayonetta 1
Bayonetta 2 will be coming out this October for the Wii U, and it’s going to include the first Bayonetta! The original game will include some awesome costume changes for the leading lady, letting her dress up as Link, Samus, and probably many more. This trailer is completely crazy, and I have no idea what is going on. That isn’t really much of a surprise, considering I played the first game for like four hours and never, at any point, had any idea what was going on.
Bayonetta 2 will be out this October on the Wii U.

Yoshi’s Woolly World looks like a beautiful dream
I don’t know how many more of these adorable trailers I can take. Yoshi’s Woolly World, yet another gorgeous game Nintendo showed off at E3 2014, looks like the love child of Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Yoshi’s Island. Yoshi runs around the yarn world and eats enemies and pops out little balls of yarn and unravels things and I am about to die from how cute this is. There’s also two player mode and you can eat your co-op buddy and shoot them out and then they… re-ravel? I don’t even know anymore.
If you do not love this trailer, I don’t know if you have a soul.
Yoshi’s Woolly World will be out in the first half of 2015 for the Wii U.

Play as Bowser and troll your friends in Mario Party 10 for Wii U
Bowser wants you to know that this is now a Bowser Party in Mario Party 10. This E3 2014 trailer shows one player using the GamePad to control Bowser while the rest of the players control Mario and his friends. There are also new attractions and mini-games, so it’s not all just getting trolled by Bowser.
Mario Party 10 will be out in 2015 for the Wii U.
