Splat or be Splatted in the Splatoon launch trailer

The paint flies fast and furious in the Nintendo UK launch trailer for Splatoon, which is available in stores worldwide today.

If you’re still unsure about Nintendo’s first wholly original property in years, this trailer makes a pretty compelling case for shooter fans. Especially if you’re interested in the 4v4 online fights found in Turf Wars… or the one-on-one local duels in the Battle Dojo… or the single-player story campaign… or the game’s three Amiibo figures.

Just don’t get splatted.

Nintendo Download: Splatoon, Don’t Starve, Mega Man Zero 3, more

splatoon-header

A large number of new releases were added to the Nintendo eShop today, but one game stands above all the others and it actually won’t be available until tomorrow. Are you ready… because Splatoon is finally available for the Wii U.

Nintendo’s take on the team-based shooter involves human/squid hybrids known as Inklings fighting for turf using paint guns. Use your squid powers to swim through the ink and use your human powers to blast other Inklings while claiming territory for your team. if multiplayer gaming isn’t your thing, there’s also an extensive single-player story mode that offers more towns to paint red (or yellow or purple or blue).

Also available for the Wii U this week is Don’t Starve: Giant Edition, a survival game from Klei. The game’s description says it all: “Fight, farm, craft, scavenge and do whatever it takes to survive in a wilderness filled with science, magic and things that go bump in the night.” Best of all, players who purchase Don’t Starve will receive a giftable bonus code to give to a friend.

Finally this week, Capcom is closing out Mega May with three classic Mega Man titles, all of which were originally released for the Game Boy Advance. Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon and Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun continue the saga of Lan and Mega Man within the computer world, while Mega Man Zero 3 closes out Zero’s story in one of the hardest platformers ever produced.

More details on all of these games, and a few others, can be found after the break. (more…)

Igarashi’s Bloodstained will come to Wii U if it reaches $3 million stretch goal

bloodstained-header

Koji Igarashi’s Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has had a pretty successful run so far. After two weeks, the side-scroller has reached $2.77 million in backer pledges and plowed through more than a dozen stretch goals. Since we last checked in with the campaign, backers have unlocked a Boss Rush Mode, a retro-themed level, a linearly re-arranged version of the game known as Classic Mode, six 8-bit music tracks for Classic Mode, and a promise that Bloodstained will have the “biggest castle” Igarashi has ever produced.

But the next stretch goal should be very important to Wii U owners as Igarashi has confirmed that Bloodstained will be released for Nintendo’s console if the campaign reaches $3 million. The Wii U version of the game will be produced by Armature Studio, a development team that specializes in porting games to new platforms. You might be familiar with their work if you’ve played the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection or Injustice: Gods Among Us on the Vita. Armature also assisted with Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for the PS4 and Xbox One.

The Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will end on June 12 at 11:00 PM (Eastern Time), so the world has a little less than 16 days to make the Wii U version happen. If I were a betting man, I’d say it’s as close to a sure thing as you can get.

Humble Nindie Bundle brings “Pay What You Want” scheme to 3DS and Wii U for first time

Humble Bundle has been offering “Pay What You Want” bundles of PC and Android games for over five years now. But console gamers were never able to get involved… until now. Nintendo has partnered with Humble Bundle to offer the Humble Nindie Bundle and it features a ton of games:

Pay what you want and get Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition for the Wii U, Woah Dave! for the 3DS, and Might Switch Force! for the 3DS. Beat the average to unlock The Fall for the Wii U, OlliOlli for the Wii U and 3DS, and Moon Chronicles for the 3DS. If you pay $10 or more, you’ll unlock Stealth Inc 2 for the Wii U and SteamWorld Dig for the Wii U and 3DS. That’s a lot of Nintendo games! And even more titles will be added to the Humble Nindie Bundle next Tuesday, June 2.

All of these games are currently available through the Nintendo eShop for a combined price of $88, so being able to purchase them for as little as $1 is a deal that’ll never come around again.

Happy shopping, and don’t forget, the Humble Nindie Bundle will expire on Tuesday, June 9 at 2:00 PM (Eastern Time).

New trailer confirms Extreme Exorcism is also coming to PS3 and Wii U this year

Developer Golden Ruby Games is hard at work on Extreme Exorcism, an arena platformer where players have to bust a bunch of ghosts while avoiding attacks from their past lives. The premise alone should be enough to put it on your radar, but development is also coming along nicely as we awarded it a Best of PAX East 2015 badge earlier this year.

In fact, Extreme Exorcism was a huge hit with a lot of convention-goers, many of whom asked the developer to bring the game to the PS3 and Wii U in addition to its previously-announced destinations (PC, PS4, and Xbox One). As you might have guessed from the headline, Golden Ruby has granted their wish and released a brand new gameplay trailer to boot.

Extreme Exorcism will be available for all five platforms later this year, but it’ll likely be after this year’s E3 Expo as Golden Ruby plans to demo the game in Ripstone Publishing’s booth at the big show.

New Releases: Splatoon, ArcaniA: The Complete Tale

splatoon-header

If you plan to visit your local game shop this week, you’ll only find two new titles on the shelves, and both of them won’t be released until Friday.

This week’s big new release is Splatoon, Nintendo’s entry into the team-based shooter category. But instead of gruff military guys, Splatoon is populated by kids who have the ability to transform into squids. They use this power to literally paint the map and the object isn’t to get the most kills (though you can still do that), but to cover more of the floor with your team’s color. It’s a crazy idea, but if anybody can make it work, it’s Nintendo.

Also available this week is ArcaniA: The Complete Tale. The PS4 RPG is an enhanced remake of the PC/PS3/Xbox 360 game of the same name. In addition to prettier graphics and more detail environmental effects, ArcaniA: The Complete Tale also comes packaged with the game’s “Fall of Setarrif” expansion.

Be on the lookout later this week for posts detailing new games available on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop. Both of these titles will be available to download alongside digital-only releases like Ultra Street Fighter IV, the fourth episode in Telltale’s Game of Thrones adaptation, and more.
