Company of Heroes 2 marches towards a June 25 release

companyofheroes2-header

Another of THQ’s lost children has been given an official release date as Sega has announced that Company of Heroes 2 will be available in stores and through PC download services on June 25.

The game was originally scheduled to be released this month, but due to the publisher changeover, Sega has given Relic Entertainment more time to “meet the high standard set by its predecessor.”

Greg Wilson, Producer of Company of Heroes 2, said, “We hate to disappoint our fans with a later than expected date as we know they are eager to play but we feel that the additional time will help the team deliver the high quality sequel they deserve.”

Relic is planning to hold a closed beta test before release to help balance the multiplayer portion of the game. More details on the beta will be released soon.

Tomb Raider reboot already has one million players

tombraider-header

It looks like fans are loving Lara Croft’s return to gaming in the rebooted Tomb Raider prequel, which was released by Square Enix on Tuesday. How big is the party? Well, Karl Stewart, Crystal Dynamics’ Global Brand Director, has tweeted that over one million people have played the game since the launch date:

With GameFly and Blockbuster (yes, they still exist) and Redbox rentals, this likely doesn’t translate to one million copies sold… yet. But with this many players already, Tomb Raider is well on its way to unearthing even more riches from the retail counter.

Retro City Rampage Review: Nostalgia Gone Wild

retrocityrampge-header

“What would Grand Theft Auto have been like on the NES?” It’s an interesting question, and one that Vblank’s Retro City Rampage attempts to answer by fusing the franchise’s original bird’s-eye viewpoint with a bucketful of 80s/90s nostalgia. The game never quite comes together, but designer Brian Provinciano definitely deserves points for trying.

Take-Two developing “extensive pipeline of unannounced titles”

taketwo-logoTake-Two Interactive officially only has three games in development right now: BioShock Infinite (which launches at the end of the month), Grand Theft Auto V (September 17), and XCOM (late 2013/early 2014). They’ve got to have more, right? Well, according to Chief Operating Officer Karl Slatoff, the publisher has a lot more in the hopper.

Speaking at the Wedbush Securities Transformational Technologies Management Access Conference yesterday morning, Slatoff confirmed that Take-Two has “an extensive pipeline of unannounced titles in development.” Slatoff didn’t reveal any further details about Take-Two’s future projects, but he did single out Red Dead, Mafia, Borderlands, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne as franchises that are important to the company.

Take-Two’s Rockstar Games label has previously said that we should expect to hear more about the next Red Dead game soon, so even though they didn’t have running water in the wild west, it’s probably included in Take-Two’s extensive pipeline.

“Deus Ex: The Fall” domains registered by Square Enix

deusex3-1Here we go again. Superanuation is back with another round of domain registrations related to the Deus Ex series.

The enigmatic blogger recently put the kibosh on hopes that Deus Ex: Human Defiance was being set up as a sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Sadly, it looks like that’s the name of the CBS Films adaptation and not a new game. So let’s try again.

This time, Square Enix’s UK arm has registered the domains DeusExTheFall.com, DeusExTheFall.net, and DeusExTheFall.co.uk. Hmm…

Hopefully this is a Human Revolution sequel and not just an alternate title being considered by CBS Films.

Daily Scoop: March 7, 2013 – Proper Tidy, Mun!

I just got my Ni No Kuni-themed t-shirt in the mail last night! It’s proper tidy, mun. I decided against getting the other two that were up, although I really wanted them! Just like I still want that Ombre Noire shirt. Must… resist… purchasing… !

I didn’t see any deals today, though I will say that Gamer Deals posted their Deals in a Nutshell for March, and on it, it says that Amazon is giving a $30 bonus credit if you pre-order BioShock: Infinite. So far, I haven’t been able to find that deal on Amazon’s site, and I’ve contacted Gamer Deals for more info, but I haven’t heard anything back. If that deal is extended to the Premium Edition, I am all over that.

As always, some more good t-shirts to tempt you:
