Daily Scoop: October 29, 2012 – Sandy vs. the East Coast

It’s been an exciting time here on the East Coast these last few days! Hurricane Sandy is here, and tonight, we’ll be getting the worst of her. In preparation, most places of business in the city of Philadelphia are closed, as is the public transportation system. My boyfriend and I decided to stay in and just play more Borderlands 2 all day. I’m a little nervous about the worst of this hurricane and what it’s going to do (which should happen in about 8 hours or so), but for the most part, it’s been a much-needed day of rest and relaxation. My cats are happy we’re home, too.

Not really many deals going on as far as I can see. Amazon’s still running some sweet Halloween Deals, so if you want some scary games, or just some recent games that are discounted, check it out. Other than that, there’s not much happening. Oh, except the new DLC for Sleeping Dogs is out tomorrow. That’s what I’m saving my dollars for!

Three sweet gaming shirts today, though one is a reprint!

Surprise! Robert Downey Jr. is the star of the CoD Black Ops II live-action trailer

Let’s see…

Appearance by Robert Downey Jr.? Check.
AC/DC’s “Back in Black” on the soundtrack? Check.
Tongue-in-cheek mayhem? Check.

Activision, and director Guy Ritchie, probably weren’t intentionally trying to link “Surprise,” the new live-action trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, to Downey’s Iron Man/Avengers character, but they certainly got the tone right. And what tone is that? Why, pure awesomeness, of course. So be sure to check out “Surprise” above.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on November 13. A Wii U release will follow five days later on November 18.

Rumor: Leaked pre-order poster lists Spring 2013 release for Grand Theft Auto V

GTA-Five.pl, a Grand Theft Auto fan site based out of Poland, has posted a picture of what they claim is the official Grand Theft Auto V pre-order poster. If the poster (which you can see to your right) is real, it confirms a number of very interesting things about GTA5.

First, the game is listed as coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This isn’t exactly surprising, but Rockstar has been hesitant to confirm just what platforms the fifth GTA will be appearing on. Second, the poster shows a Spring 2013 release date, which is consistent with a previous statement from Take Two’s CEO about the company’s expected profitability in early 2013. The kind of profitability that only comes from the release of a Grand Theft Auto game.

Other details we can glean from this poster include the European content rating (PEGI 18, no surprise there) and the use of the recently released “Pest Control” artwork. Of course, neither can be used to prove the veracity of the poster either way.

So what say you? Too legit to quit? Or faker than an EGM April Fool’s joke?

Wreck-It Ralph Review: The Movie You’ve Been Waiting For

If you’re anything like me, you were smitten with Wreck-It Ralph when you saw its trailer for the first time. A Disney movie about a fictional video game, featuring characters from beloved games of our youth, made in an adorable style, with an amazing cast of voices? It was like a dream come true. Each additional trailer and a fantastic series of posters hyped me up more and more, and gave me butterflies in my stomach. And, as I found out in a special early screening of the movie, gaming has gone so mainstream that gamers are in for an awesome treat with Wreck-It Ralph.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault to be released on November 27

Are you still putting the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection through its paces? If so, you might be interested to know that Sony has given Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault a November 27 release date. The game has also been given a very friendly $19.99 price tag, which applies to both the PlayStation Network version and the retail version.

Yes, retail version. Insomniac’s James Stevenson has confirmed that Full Frontal Assault is quite a bit larger than the last “fun-size” Ratchet & Clank title, Quest For Booty:

As you know, Full Frontal Assault is a “fun-size” project that’s similar in scope to Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty. But Full Frontal is actually bigger than Booty (sorry, couldn’t resist), as we’ve added tons of new features, including the new base assault and defense elements. An even bigger addition to Full Frontal Assault is the replay value we packed in with online / split-screen co-op, and online competitive modes.

And in case you forgot, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will be one of the first titles to take part in the PS3/Vita Cross Buy program. So if you purchase the PS3 version, you’ll receive the Vita version for free.
