Telltale unveils E3 Trailer and August 14 launch date for The Walking Dead’s Final Season

The end is nigh! And that’s because Telltale Games has announced that The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 14.

The Final Season will consist of four episodes, and the developer added that players who pre-order it on the PS4 or Xbox One will receive a free digital download of The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection (which includes Season 1, Season 2, A New Frontier, and the Michonne spinoff). PC players who pre-order The Final Season on Steam, GOG, GamersGate, or the Humble Store will receive a 10% discount off the retail price, while Windows Store shoppers will receive a free download of Season 1.

In addition to a release date announcement, Telltale talked a bit about fans can expect from the game on their official site:

Clementine, now a fierce and capable survivor, has reached the final chapter in her journey. After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home. But protecting it will mean sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. In this gripping, emotional final season, you will define your relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine’s story ends.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season will also feature a “new over-the-shoulder camera system, greater freedom to explore detailed environments, and scenes with unscripted combat” that the developer hopes will create “the most engaging The Walking Dead game yet.”

Telltale Games will also bring The Walking Dead: The Final Season to the E3 Expo next week, but for now, be sure to check out the E3 Trailer embedded above.

Motiga officially launches 5v5 hero shooter Gigantic for PC and Xbox One

Gigantic‘s Open Beta is coming to the end, and Motiga and Perfect World have announced that “Version 1.0” of their free-to-play “Hero Shooter” is available to download for the PC and Xbox One beginning today.

Today’s update will add Text Chat to the game, as well as new Packs, and Gigantic’s 19th Hero. Ramsay is “a cunning heavy-hitter brandishing a seriously lethal blade,” and he’s just the first of many new additions to the game. Motiga plans to add a new Hero to the game each month, in addition to other fixes and updates.

To celebrate Gigantic’s launch, Motiga is giving away several exclusive Skins for players who log in through Steam, Arc, or Xbox One/Windows 10. Steam players will receive a “Stone Relics” Skin for Beckett, Arc users will get a “Lightning” Skin for Tripp, and Xbox One/Windows 10 players will unlock an “Excelsior” Skin for Tyto the Swift.

“We’re thrilled to welcome all players to the vibrant world of Gigantic,” said Chris Chung, the CEO of Motiga. “The team has worked incredibly hard to develop an experience unlike any other. We hope you join us and the community of players who have fallen in love with the game and helped us throughout its development.”

If you’re not interested in Gigantic’s free-to-play business model, you can opt for the Ultimate Pack ($29.99) to gain access to all 19 currently-available Heroes, all future Heroes, and a variety of in-game bonus items (unique Skins, progression boosts, Fortune Cards, and Premium Currency). All Beta participants who purchased the Founder’s Pack will be upgraded to the Ultimate Pack, and all Steam and Arc users who purchase the Ultimate Pack will receive a free Starter Pack for a friend.

A Launch Trailer for “Version 1.0” of Gigantic has been embedded above.

Weekly Warp-Up: T-Minus 12 Days from the Launch of the Nintendo Switch

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

We are T-Minus 12 days from the launch of the Nintendo Switch, so now is a good time as any to ask Is Nintendo Marketing the Switch to the Wrong Audience? For a company so closely liked with the childlike wonder that video games can create, we’ve noticed there’s been a distinct lack of kids in the Switch’s marketing materials.

But, of course, video games aren’t just for kids. And no where is there more evident than in latest Kickstart This! selection, a game adaptation of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.

Finally this week, our Scientifically Proven Best Video Games of All Time series looked at the simplicity of Space Invaders. Drop down, increase speed, and reverse direction!

You can find more news from this past week, including a recap of NIS America’s 2017 Press Event and a lost “Pac-Man” parody from Weird Al Yankovic, after the break. (more…)

Fallout Shelter will be released for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs next week

Bethesda and Microsoft have announced that Fallout Shelter will be released for the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs next week. The free-to-play Vault management sim will launch on February 7, and it’ll also be available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title so players will be able to share their progress in the game on their Xbox One and all Windows 10 devices.

Xbox One owners will be happy to know that Fallout Shelter has been adapted to work with a controller on the console, and it’s also packed with a new set of Achievements. Here’s what else the Xbox Wire had to say about the game:

Fallout Shelter thrusts players into the role of Overseer to build their own Vault, manage dwellers, and adventure through Fallout’s iconic wasteland. Since the game’s original launch in 2015, the game has continued to expand and add features, including Crafting, Scrapping, Pets, additional rooms, iconic Fallout 4 characters, and special Dweller customization options. The game’s constantly growing Quest system allows Overseers to send Dwellers out into the Wasteland to abandoned buildings, decrepit Vaults, and mysterious caves to uncover legendary loot and face off against enemies like Radscorpions, Ghouls, and powerful bosses.

Fallout Shelter is also currently available to download for the PC through Bethesda.net, and on iOS and Android devices.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might not be a launch title for Nintendo Switch

thelegendofzeldabreathofthewild-header

Officially, Nintendo will launch The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sometime in 2017, though many fans are hoping it’ll be released in March as part of the Switch’s launch lineup. Unfortunately, if you believe a new rumor from “Emily Rogers,” it’s much more likely the game will available in Summer 2017.

Breath of the Wild is shaping up to be a big game, and according to Rogers’s sources, it’s taking Nintendo much longer to localize it than they originally planned. Because of this scheduling snafu, the sources say Nintendo will need an addition four-to-six months to test Breath of the Wild for bugs, which would push its launch to next Summer:

That brings us to the month of November. More sources have now come forward and corroborated my information. They’ve told me that localization for Breath of the Wild might not be finished until the end of December. After localization is completed, this game will require between (at least) four-to-six months of testing. As I mentioned earlier, this is one of Nintendo’s largest and most ambitious games ever. The amount of testing required for a huge open-world game like this is enormous. Nintendo’s intention is to have the game as bug free as possible.

Eurogamer corroborated this proposed production schedule with their own internal sources, so it’s looking more and more likely that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won’t be ready in time for the Switch’s launch window.
