  • Hard Drive: 55 GB
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
  • Internet: Download of additional files from Steam (total amount 45 GB) is required to run the game. Requires Steam activation and broadband internet connection for Multiplayer and SnapMap.

Recommended System Requirements

PS4 and Xbox One owners will also be able to “Fight Like Hell” on May 13, and they’ll want to ensure they have 50 GB of hard drive space available to properly play Doom.

Hyper Light Drifter will be released for the PC (Windows/Mac) on March 31

Hyper Light Drifter, the overhead action RPG from Heart Machine, finally has an officially release date… and it’s next week. The Kickstarter success story will be released for the PC (Windows/Mac) on March 31. A Linux launch will hopefully happen on the same day, though it may slip if the team needs a bit of extra time. To celebrate the release date announcement, Heart Machine has also uploaded a brand new trailer for Hyper Light Drifter that feels suitably epic and looks absolutely gorgeous.

Hyper Light Drifter will also make its way to consoles (PS4, Wii U, Xbox One) and Sony’s Vita handheld sometime this year.

PlayStation VR will launch in October and it’ll be priced at $399

In case you missed it earlier this week, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR headset will be released this October. This launch window means it’ll be available several months after the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but it’s suggested retail price of $399 is well below that of competing headsets. For your money, you’ll receive a PlayStation VR headset, a pair of earbuds, a number of power and connection cables, and the required processing box.

According to the PlayStation Blog, more than 50 PlayStation VR-compatible games will be released by the end of the year, and more than 230 developers are currently working on PlayStation VR content. This includes Sony’s Japan Studio, which will launch Playroom VR, a free minigame collection, this October. The six activities available in Playroom VR will focus on interaction between multiple players, in an attempt to prove that VR doesn’t have to be a solitary experience.

A new trailer for Playroom VR has been embedded after the break. (more…)

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is now available to download on Windows 10 PCs

Like the Locust Horde bursting out of the ground on Emergence Day, Microsoft surprise-launched Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 PCs today. Microsoft is touting the Gears Ultimate Edition as more than just a simple remake, and according to a new post on the Xbox Wire, the team responsible for the remake at The Coalition rebuilt everything from the ground up:

Cam McRae, Technical Director at The Coalition – the studio who’s spearheading Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’s transition to PC which is available today – is insistent that his team didn’t mess with the fundamentals that defined the classic shooter’s identity. By this, he means the countless little things that make Gears feel like Gears: the way the characters move, the timing of their weapons, and the tactile feel that you get when they collide with objects in the game’s world. “One of our goals with the PC version was ‘don’t touch the art.’ But beyond that,” McRae said, “we changed everything.”

While Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will feel very similar to the 2006 original, Windows 10 players will get the best-looking version of the game to date. Almost every object in the game has been “uprezzed” with 10-30% more polygons and it’ll be playable at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in single-player (and very close to that in multiplayer).

To get players ready for the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a new video focusing on the first ten minutes of the game has been embedded above.

Microsoft offers a “snapshot” of their 2016 Xbox One/Windows 10 exclusives

microsoftgamestudios-logo

Microsoft loved to promote their 2015 release schedule as the “Greatest Games Line-Up in Xbox History,” but the publisher plans to continue to use that tagline in 2016. Mike Nichols, the Xbox Division’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing, has posted a look back at some of Microsoft’s achievements from the previous year on the Xbox Wire, but the executive also gave us a “snapshot” of Big Redmond’s 2016 lineup of Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusives.

Most of these release dates are well known, but it’s nice to learn that the Windows 10 version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be released this Spring. And it looks like Keiji Inafune’s ReCore will also be released for the PC in addition to the Xbox One, though its release date has been changed from “Spring 2016” to “TBA 2016”:

Greatest Games Line-Up in Xbox History Extends to 2016

  • Cobalt (Xbox One / Xbox 360 / Steam) – February 2
  • Killer Instinct: Season 3 (Xbox One / Windows 10) – March
  • Quantum Break (Xbox One) – April 5
  • Fable Legends (Xbox One / Windows 10) – Spring (Open Beta)
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Windows 10) – Spring
  • Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (Xbox One / Windows 10) – Spring
  • Crackdown 3 (Xbox One) – Summer (Multiplayer)
  • Gears of War 4 (Xbox One) – Fall (Launch) / Spring (Multiplayer Beta)
  • Halo Wars 2 (Xbox One / Windows 10) – Fall
  • Gigantic (Xbox One / Windows 10) – TBA 2016
  • ReCore (Xbox One / Windows 10) – TBA 2016
  • Sea of Thieves (Xbox One / Windows 10) – TBA 2016

Microsoft has several other unannounced titles on track for 2016 and will make further “new title reveals” in the coming months.

Slightly Mad launches crowdfunding campaign for Project CARS 2

projectcars2-earlyheader

Slightly Mad Studios wanted feedback from the vast gaming community as they developed Project CARS, and they got it by releasing a series of early builds that players were able to evaluate as the game raced to completion. However, this process took its time and the game’s planned Fall 2013 release eventually morphed into a May 2015 launch. So I guess it’s a good thing Slightly Mad is already getting started on the sequel.

Announced on the game’s official website yesterday, Project CARS 2 will once again use community feedback to mold the game through the evaluation of early builds. Slightly Mad currently has £250,000 ($392,000) budgeted for the game and is seeking an additional £7 million ($11 million) through their World of Mass Development crowdfunding platform.

Sightly Mad Studios also shared their vision for Project CARS 2, which could turn out to be the biggest racing simulation ever:

  • The Largest Track Roster Ever – 50 unique locations and 200+ courses including “loose surface racing” on dirt, gravel, mud, and snow. All will have dynamic time of day and weather allowing you to play anytime, anywhere.
  • The Widest Variety of Motorsports – With eight different disciplines now including Rallycross, Hillclimbs, and Touge. 200+ cars from over 40 different vehicle classes including never-before-seen Concepts and Banned Race Cars.
  • Co-Op Career – Play as the Teammate Driver, Spotter, Driver Swap, or Co-Pilot. More choices, more opportunities, more strategy, greater risks, and greater rewards.
  • Seamlessly Connected – Socialize and compete via Online Track Days, have players from around the world take the place of AI-controlled drivers in your solo play, and get news updates on the Driver Network around you.
  • Pro eSports Racing – Skill & Behavioural-based matchmaking, create your own Online Racing Leagues, and Live Broadcast and Spectator functionality.
  • Your Home For Racing – Your own personal, customisable Test Track to tune and test your cars. Invite others to showcase your passion for racing and learn race craft and engineering with the Project CARS Academy.

Project CARS 2 is in development for the PC (Windows and SteamOS), PS4, and Xbox One.

Halo: Spartan Strike was quietly released today for Windows 8, iOS devices

halospartanstrike-header

After discovering a variety of major bugs in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Microsoft and 343 Industries pushed the release of Halo: Spartan Strike, a twin-stick spinoff, from December 2014 to “early 2015.” Today, the game was quietly released for the PC (via Steam), Windows 8 tablets and PCs, iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad), and Windows Phone 8. Halo: Saprtan Assault, which was originally released in 2013, also makes its iOS debut today as part of the Halo: Spartan Bundle.

Developed by Vanguard Games, Xbox Wire says Spartan Strike takes place during Halo 2 and serves as a training ground for Spartan soldiers:

Halo: Spartan Strike tells a compelling new story in the Halo universe set during the events of Halo 2 on New Mombasa in 2552. As a Spartan supersoldier in a classified ONI simulation, delve into 30 challenging missions while leading UNSC troops through cities and jungles with an all new arsenal of weapons, abilities and vehicles.

Players who advance through Halo: Spartan Strike’s Achievements will be able to unlock an exclusive Emblem, Nameplate, and Avatar in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. So I guess it’s got that going for it.
