Deep Silver denies release of Next Metro Game in 2017… but confirms it’s in development

metro2035Yesterday, a timeline on the official website for Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro trilogy revealed that a new game set after the events of the third novel, Metro 2035, would be released in 2017. Today, publisher Deep Silver confirmed that “The Next Metro Video Game” is in the works, but it won’t be released next year.

In a statement to Destructoid, a Deep Silver spokesman said:

“As the exclusive rights holder to video games set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans’ expectations — releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will. Thank you for your patience.”

The timeline on Metro2035.com has been amended to reflect this new state of affairs with a question mark next to the release date for the upcoming Metro game.

Ubisoft polishes up Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection in PS3-to-PS4 Comparison Trailer

Ubisoft will release Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection for the PS4 and Xbox One next week. Just like it says on the box, the compilation will include remastered re-releases of Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Over at the UbiBlog, developers from Virtuos discussed how they squeezed the “1080p resolution, improved draw distance, and a host of improved visual effects” out of the three games.

“The Assassins Creed franchise has always be known for stunning visuals and we’ve been very careful to keep the game feel authentic, just more beautiful,” said Xu Zhiyong, Lead Producer at Virtuos Studio. “For us, our work is all about dialing up the beauty and making a much loved world even more vivid, engaging, and immersive for the players.”

They also unveiled a brand new Comparison Trailer that puts the PS3 originals side-by-side with The Ezio Collection on the PS4. The results are pretty impressive.

The Uncharted movie will start filming in late Spring/early Summer 2017

uncharted drakes fortuneIt’s been a long journey for the Uncharted movie, but director Shawn Levy recently told Collider that filming will begin on the cinematic adaptation next year in the late Spring or early Summer. During a special IMAX screening of Real Steel, Levy’s 2011 robot boxing movie that starred Hugh Jackman, the director laid out his vision for the Uncharted film:

I’ve been interested in this project for years. I’ve played and loved every iteration of the game. I think it’s largely a popularly accepted notion that it’s as cinematic a game as we’ve had, maybe ever, certainly of late. And it’s cinematic in that it’s not only wildly visual, but it’s really rooted in character and a very specific tone and a sense of fun, right? When is the last great, fun, fucking action-dynamic, treasure-hunting movie? Right? It’s not Indiana Jones, it’s not National Treasure; it’s very specific, it’s all kind of anchored in Nathan’s tone.

So I’ve been interested in it, and I’ve just been quietly letting people know I’ve been interested in it, but other people have been involved, I’ve been busy, and a moment finally appeared recently where I was like, “Me! Okay, me!” Sony and the producers involved were like, “Yeah, that actually makes perfect sense.” I’m like, “Yeah! That’s what I’ve been saying for a little while.”

I am unabashedly thrilled to be making that next year.

Levy’s lengthy talk also touched on Joe Carnahan’s script (the A-Team director is still working on it), Indiana Jones versus Nathan Drake (Drake is “much grittier, more naturalistic, real-world, contemporary”), and which actors might be up for the role of Drake (“It’s every actor who is ruggedly handsome, which is to say every movie star, and who looks anything like the square-jawed, chiseled-featured Drake”).

The entire article is worth a read, but Levy isn’t the first director to take a crack at an Uncharted adaptation. Development on the film began in early 2008 and passed through multiple directors and writers (including David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and Seth Gordon) before landing on Levy last month.

The third game in the Metro trilogy will be released in 2017

metro2035The final novel in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro trilogy, Metro 2035, will be published in English for the first time on December 10. Naturally, that means another Metro video game is also on the way.

A timeline available on the novel’s official website includes an entry for “The Next Metro Video Game,” along with a release date of sometime in 2017. We don’t know which platforms it’ll land on yet, but the game is expected to build on the events of the third novel and eventually lead to “an era of great discoveries”:

Metro 2035
The final part of the trilogy takes us back to Artyom and his struggle to get the people back to the above world they once ruled. This is a standalone story that can be read independently from the previous books and games — yet for those who have been following Artyom from the very beginning, Metro 2035 crowns the saga in its own way. Characters of all the books and games meet here, their destinies intertwine, and everything you knew about the world of Metro is turned upside down…

The Next Metro Video Game
It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead…

Deep Silver, the publisher of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, declined to comment about the possibility of a new Metro game next year after they were contacted by Destructoid.
