The last pre-PS4 PlayStation Store update is full of this Fall’s biggest PS3 releases…
- 2K Games released the alien invasion expansion XCOM: Enemy Within.
- WB Games released a bigger Injustice: Gods Among Us package with the “Ultimate Edition.”
- Ratchet & Clank rode off into the sunset in Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus.
- And Sony expanded the Wonderbook line of games with Diggs Nightcrawler and Walking With Dinosaurs.
Also available this week is a Cross-Buy version of Flower that will add the title to the game library on your PS3, Vita, and PS4.
ORIGINAL STORY: Injustice: Gods Among Us has been quite the success for NetherRealm Studios. The Mortal Kombat makers branched out (slightly) and produced a memorable fighting game featuring many of our favorite characters (and Aquaman) from DC Comics lore. So what can they do for an encore? I don’t know, but we’ll all find out together sometime this week. Ed Boon, the developer’s founder and current Creative Director, tweeted the following news last night:
Big INJUSTICE news next week? Perhaps.
— Ed Boon (@noobde) October 6, 2013
So what’s the big news? A PS4/Xbox One/Vita port is a possibility. As is another downloadable character or a “Game of the Year” edition containing all of the previously released DLC. But as I said, we’ll add find out together soon.
UPDATE: Seconds after this story was posted, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed that an “Ultimate Edition” of Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 12. It will include all six DLC characters as well as additional character skins and S.T.A.R. Labs missions. The game is also coming to the Vita (thanks to Armature Studios), the PC (thanks to High Voltage), and the PS4 (thanks to NetherRealm themselves). Touch controls will be added to the Vita/PS4 versions and a soundtrack will be included with all editions of the game.
The July 2013 best-selling games chart has been released by The NPD Group and EA’s NCAA Football 14 has gone to the head of the class. It will be the last game to carry the “NCAA Football” moniker as the NCAA has ended their licensing agreement with the game publisher.
A mixture of recent and older titles populates the rest of the top ten, which you can view right here:
1. NCAA Football 14 (Xbox 360, PS3)
2. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (Xbox 360)
3. The Last of Us (PS3)
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC)
5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
6. Far Cry 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
7. Battlefield 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
8. Injustice: Gods Among Us (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U)
9. NBA 2K13 (Xbox 360, PS3 ,Wii, Wii U, PSP, PC)
10. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PS3, 3DS, Wii U, Vita, PC)
NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon promised that we’d get a first look at the next downloadable character for Injustice: Gods Among Us and he has delivered. It’s everyone’s favorite DC Comics magician… Zatanna!
You didn’t think I meant John Constantine, did you?
You can check out Zatanna in action against Solomon Grundy in the trailer above. Like the previous DLC characters, she will be available to download soon (actually, on August 13) through the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii U eShop for $5 (or 400 Microsoft Points).
NetherRealm Studios has confirmed (via Facebook) that Martian Manhunter will be available to download through the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us on Tuesday, July 30. Owners of the Wii U edition will have to wait until a later date to purchase the superhero also known as J’onn J’onzz.
The Martian Manhunter DLC will likely be priced at $4.99 (400 Microsoft Points) and a John Stewart Green Lantern skin will also be available on the same day.
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us cashed in on years of hype and some of the best reviews for a PS3 game ever (including a 7/7 from our own Andrew Rainnie) to emerge as the best-selling game of June 2013. Last month’s report from The NPD Group featured plenty of other new faces including Animal Crossing: New Leaf (#2), Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (#3, the first time its been available for retail sale), and Deadpool (#8).
Call of Duty: Black Ops II, NBA 2K13, and Battlefield 3 continue their lengthy runs as they sold enough copies to land at, respectively, #4, #5, and #9. The complete list of June 2013’s top ten best-selling games can be found after the break.
According to the NPD’s monthly report (via Game Informer), total retail sales of games, consoles, and accessories amounted to $593.3 million, a 15% decline from June 2012’s $700.6 million total. (more…)
