Monaco Review: What’s Yours Is Mine… But Not If I Go Alone

monaco-header

Monaco is an indie game by Pocketwatch Games, in which you and your fellow professional criminals spend some quality time together breaking out of – and into – various facilities. The game is top-down and done in simple graphics, with large pixelated characters and backgrounds. You can choose to take on each mission alone, choosing which character you want to play as, or team up with up to three other people, each of whom can play someone different. The multiplayer aspects of the game are a complete blast, but taking on the game solo can be a frustrating affair.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus announced for PS3 release this year

While Sony may see the PS3 as the sputtering jalopy parked next to the shiny, new sports car that is the PS4; there’s also a crusty, old mechanic standing next to the console, ready to give it a slap and a, “There’s still some life in the old girl.” this folksy tableau is a way of saying that Sony announced a brand new Ratchet & Clank game for the yesterday, and that it’ll be available for the PS3 by the end of the year.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is in development at Insomniac and is considered a “return to form” for the series. After the family adventure of All 4 One and the competitive aspects of Full Frontal Assault, Insomiac wanted to return to the more “traditional” gameplay of Ratchet’s “personal story arc.”

You can watch the first trailer above, which gives you a look at some of the crazy new weapons Ratchet will have at his disposal (because, of course he will) as well as the game’s signature gameplay hook: zero gravity. Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus has been priced at $29.99 and will be available in stores and as a PSN download this holiday season. You can get out a few screenshots at the PlayStation Blog.

Daily Scoop: July 10, 2013 – Hot hot heat

Hello, Internet! I have been dreadfully sick this last week, finally caving and staying home yesterday. I won’t have to worry anymore about whether or not it’s the fever or the temperature that has me nearly on fire. Woohoo!

There are some good new deals popping up over at Amazon these days. You can get Fast & Furious: Showdown for $19.99, Heroes of Ruin for $17.99, Hitman Trilogy HD for $19.99, Lego Lord of the Rings for $14.99, and the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition for $34.99. That’s a lot of great deals!

To round it all off, I’ve got some cool t-shirts for you.

Shigeru Miyamoto is working on a “new franchise” at Nintendo

For all the Internet wailing that Nintendo just rehashes their favored franchises over and over again, Shigeru Miyamoto is obsessed with newness. In the last 18 months, the famed developer has told reporters that he’s interested in creating new characters for Nintendo, bringing new ideas to Metroid and Star Fox using the Wii U GamePad, and experimenting with the Legend of Zelda series. He has also passed on creating another F-Zero sequel because he can’t think of anything new to add to the franchise.

After all this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Miyamoto doesn’t just have plans to work on a new franchise for the Wii U… he’s actually doing it right now!

Miyamoto: [I]t’s pointless to talk about other features, no matter how fulfilling, without releasing games of our own, so we hope you’ll look forward to the games to come. Next Spring, with the release of Mario Kart 8, we’ll have a general selection available, so I’ve been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise.

Famitsu: A new franchise! An all-new title that you would be working on?

Miyamoto: I can’t say too much in detail right now, but I’ve been pretty busy with this title these days.

Just a few days ago, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed that the company has a full slate of unannounced titles in development for the Wii U. So it might be a while before we hear more about Miyamoto’s next (possible) masterpiece.
