4/1: Square Enix is NOT working on an 8-bit Deus Ex game

deusexhumandefiance

Deus Ex: Human Defiance just won’t go away. After Square Enix Europe trademarked the title in February, fans were excited to hear more about the further adventures of Adam Jensen. Then CBS Films revealed that it was actually one of the titles under consideration for the movie adaptation and had nothing to do with any future games. Now, Square Enix has struck back and confirmed that Deus Ex: Human Defiance is actually the name of an 8-bit sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Human Defiance will include a co-op mode where the second player would control JC Denton. More than a mere demake, the two characters will engage augmented enemies in classic Deus Ex style:

Human Defiance is everything you expect from a Deus Ex experience. Every challenge can be tackled in many different ways, from ghost-mode stealth to all-out gunplay. Every choice you make has far-reaching consequences. Every truth you uncover reveals new layers of secrets and conspiracy.

Or rather, it would if the whole thing wasn’t an April Fool’s Day joke. A trailer and a nicer official site than most real games can be found at DeusEx.com/humandefiance.

Gag Reflex: The lengthy, and rather amazing, trailer is a nice touch. It’s too bad this is clearly fake as I’d definitely play it.

4/1: Capcom will NOT release Super Duper Street Fighter IV

superduperstreetfighterAfter Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, it’s not hard to believe that Capcom would release one more update to the popular fighting game. And guess what? According to the Capcom-Unity blog, it’s Super Duper:

Introducing the Duper Meter. This will sit below the Super Meter and be easily identifiable with it’s Yellow color. With the Duper meter, Super moves can now take on the properties of EX Moves after their activation or be used to strengthen EX moves in general. The Duper Meter also builds 1.5 times faster than the normal Super Meter. Now players will get even more options to select from as we know Street Fighter 4 players love option selecting.

Super Duper Street Fighter IV won’t be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 anytime soon because it’s an April Fool’s Day joke.

Gag Reflex: Previous games in the Street Fighter series have carried run-on titles like Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: Fight For the Future, so “Super Duper” isn’t that much of a stretch. You probably won’t stumble across a more believable hoax all day.

Metanet announces N++

nplusplus-header

Metanet’s last game, N+, ninjaed it’s way onto the Xbox Live Arcade, DS, and PSP back in 2008. Since then, the developer of the quintessential “ninjas versus lasers” game (that’s a genre, right?) has been relatively quiet. But during last week’s Game Developers Conference, the developer revealed they’re coming back in a big way and they’re bringing N the Ninja with them.

At GDC, Metanet announced N++, the “absolutely final iteration of N.” The new game will include “new levels, new graphics, new sound, [and] new game modes,” but when it’ll be released or what platforms it’ll be available for is still a mystery.

What’s not a mystery is the game’s official site, which Metanet promises to pack with exciting N++ updates soon.

Weekly Warp-Up: GDC 2013 Edition

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

Another week, another major video game convention to contend with. The 2013 Game Developers Conference wrapped up on Friday and, as promised, we learned a few things about some of gaming’s biggest titles.

DICE displayed Battlefield 4 for 17 minutes and really showed off the shinier portions of their new Frostbite 3 engine. And Journey showed its muscle once more as it took home six GDC Awards. For the record, the organization only gives out 11 total awards. Finally, Hideo Kojima stopped being coy and confirmed that “Ground Zeroes” and “The Phantom Pain” are actually Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. But then a Konami PR representative told us they were two separate games, which another Konami representative later confirmed.

Sigh… Watching Konami promote a new Metal Gear game is like watching two magicians try to entertain each other. We know all the tricks.

But at least there’s still plenty of PAX East fun to talk about including The PAXpocalypse List, our look at the best games on the show floor. We’ve also got a Hands-On Preview of The Last of Us and a double shot of Shovel Knight: A Hands-On Preview and an Interview With Director Sean Velasco. Finally, we delve deep into the dark corners of the Shadow PAX, finding games and moments that were on the fringes of the PAX East experience.

Hit the jump for more news from the last week.

New Releases: Defiance, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, More

newreleases040213

With PAX East and GDC behind us, we head into another slow Spring month of new releases.

The first week of April begins with Trion Worlds’ Defiance for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The alien-blasting game is a side-story companion to the Syfy show of the same name. This week also sees the release of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The enhanced special edition of Ryu Hayabusa’s third adventure was previously only available for the Wii U.

Also available this week is a trio of new PC games (Cities In Motion 2, Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death, and The Veil of Mystery: Seven Little Gnomes) as well as Super Black Bass 3D on the 3DS.

And that’s it.

Favorites dominate Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote during round two

maddennfl25-covervote-round3I know it happened on Wednesday, but the higher seeds dominated the final voting in the second round of the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote. Michael Strahan on the Old School side and Ray Rice on the New School side were the only players ranked as the 5th seed or lower able to break through.

That means all-time greats Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ray Lewis, Deion Sanders, Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, and Dan Marino all live to see another day. They’re joined by Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III, Adrian Peterson, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Rob Gronkowski, and Arian Foster from the New School side.

Any one of these players would make a deserving Madden cover athlete. And you can cast your round three votes at ESPN.com/MaddenVote now through April 3. Be sure to check out the round three matchups after the break.
