EA says Star Wars: Battlefront to be released in Fall 2015; New Battlefield to follow in Fall 2016
During yesterday’s quarterly conference call, Electronic Arts announced that Star Wars: Battlefront is a first-person shooter (not much of a surprise) that will be released in October, November, or December of next year (also not much of a surprise). This move is surely meant to capitalize on the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode VII, which will open on December 18, 2015.
Executives from the company also confirmed that the next Battlefield game (which they’re calling “our next Battlefield experience” for now) will be released in Fall 2016. According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, the game won’t launch in 2015 because, “We want to give Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline players more time to enjoy these games and immerse themselves in a game, the live service, and the community.”
EA’s CFO, Blake Jorgensen, announced that more information about both titles will be revealed during the company’s next quarterly conference call, which will take place sometime in February.

Lords of the Fallen, NBA Live 15, WWE 2K15 for PS3, more added to PS Store
It’s another embarrassment of riches for the PlayStation Store this week as more than a dozen new games are now available to download across the PS3, PS4, and Vita. Let’s take a closer look…
- Lords of the Fallen (PS4) is a medieval hack and slash from Bandai Namco and City Interactive.
- KillAllZombies (PS4) is a twin-stick zombie shooter that can be affected by other players watching through Twitch.
- Costume Quest 2 (PS3, PS4) is a sequel to Double Fine’s Halloween-y RPG.
- NBA Live 15 (PS4) is the latest game in EA’s basketball simulation series.
- WWE 2K15 (PS3) is the first WWE wrestling game from 2K after THQ’s demise.
- The Unfinished Swan (PS4/Vita Cross-Buy) is Sony’s artistic paintbrush game, now available on the PS4 and Vita for the first time.
More information on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. And, as always, a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Inazuma Eleven Review: The Grindingest Soccer Game Ever
I’ll just say it up front: Inazuma Eleven is really weird. It’s an RPG set in the world of high school soccer that plays as both a role-playing game and a sports game at the same time. Developed and published by Level-5, who are not strangers to games that are different, Inazuma Eleven really just rolls with it… no pun intended. It was released in Japan back in 2008 on the DS, and was re-released earlier this year on 3DS, which is when it finally came to our shores. The game – which has multiple sequels and spin-offs – has also spawned a manga, anime, collectible card game, and yes, according to Wikipedia, it even “served as the debut of a J-pop idol group” called Twe’lv. So what’s the deal with this quirky game? (more…)

Battlefield Hardline will be released on March 17, 2015
Electronic Arts just announced that Battlefield Hardline will be released on March 17, 2015 as part of their latest quarterly financial report. It’s possible that more information about the game will be transmitted via their quarterly conference call, which will begin at 5:00 PM (Eastern Time).
Battlefield Hardline was originally announced during this year’s E3 Expo and was expected to launch in October for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. However, the game’s release was delayed into 2015 back in July so the development team at Visceral could make changes to the game’s single-player mode as well as implement some of the feedback they received during the game’s multiplayer beta.
Daily Scoop: October 28, 2014 – Coin Crypt is a featured new release on Steam today!
Well, we haven’t completely finished Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, but the credits did roll last night. We have a few more side missions to finish, and we’re considering playing it over again, but we definitely haven’t enjoyed it as much as we did Borderlands 2. But you’ll just have to wait for my review to hear my full opinion.
In the meantime, let’s talk about deals, starting with Coin Crypt! Although part of the Philadelphia-based team (Dumb and Fat Games) that made it, Greg LaBonav and Tyler Myers, are currently bicycling across the country, their game launched on Steam, and they’re listed in the featured new releases section. The game is also discounted down to $8.49 right now, which is even more reason to scoop it up!
Oh, and, you know, the Midweek Madness is BioShock Infinite for $7.49, and the Daily Deal is Transformers: Fall of Cybertron for $14.99, but whatever! Philly game devs represent!
Let’s also talk about the amazing new Humble InDIE Bundle. Pay what you want for OlliOlli, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, and Tower of Guns. Beat the average to unlock Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Jazzpunk, four copies of Risk of Rain, and more games to be announced. (Honestly, that tier is worth it just for one copy of Risk of Rain, let alone 4!) Pay $12 or more to unlock Shadowrun Returns. And, finally, pay $65 or more to unlock the Box O’ Treats, which includes a hoodie, 13 collectible cards, and a cassette tape with tracks from the games on it, among other things. How cool is that?
Let’s check out all of today’s awesome shirts!

Relive the retro awesomeness of Excitebike with Mario Kart 8’s Excitebike Arena DLC
Fans have really taken to Nintnedo’s decision to expand Mario Kart 8 into “Super Smash Kart” with downloadable content. The announcement that Link would get a kart of his own was met with huge applause from the Mario Kart community. And the return of the B Dasher and Yoshi Circuit certainly revved up the franchise’s fans as well. But I think Nintendo’s next announcement might top them all. The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 Pack, which will be available in November, will include “Excitebike Arena,” a course based on the NES edition of Excitebike.
Excitebike was famous for including one of the first track editors in gaming history and Nintendo will channel that spirit by randomizing the layout of Excitebike Arena with every race. Jumps, oil slicks, grass hazards… if you remember it from Excitebike, it’ll be included in Excitebike Arena. Check out the trailer above for a look at how the randomization will work.
In retrospect, mixing Mario Kart with Excitebike seems so obvious that a part of me is amazed that Nintendo never tried it before.

Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: TIE Fighter, other LucasArts titles added to GOG.com
Before today, Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter had never been made available for purchase through any digital download service. But that changes now as GOG.com has announced that both games (along with several other LucasArts favorites) are now available to download for the first time ever.
Considered by many critics to be two of the greatest space combat simulators ever, X-Wing and TIE Fighter were originally released in 1993 and 1995, respectively, on floppy disks. Both games would eventually be released on CD-ROM by LucasArts as an enhanced “Collector’s Edition” in 1998, the last time before today both games were officially in print.
The GOG.com Special Edition of each game (priced at $9.99 apiece) includes the original floppy disk version as well as the enhanced CD-ROM edition. Both games also come bundled with their expansion packs (Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing for X-Wing and Defender of the Empire for TIE Fighter).
Four other LucasArts titles were also added to GOG.com this morning: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, and Sam & Max Hit the Road. Additional games published by LucasArts will be available to download from the digital download service soon.
Daily Scoop: October 27, 2014 – Monday again
I know it keeps happening every week, but here we are – it’s another Monday! Anthony Amato and I spent the weekend playing a lot of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, showing our games off at South Jersey Geek Fest, and playing Dungeons and Dragons. How did you spend yours?
As always, I’m here to bring you the most current deals! John Scalzo already told you about one of the most exciting ones, which is Microsoft’s $50 discount on Xbox One consoles. That’s right – starting November 2 and running until just after the New Year begins, you can get discounted consoles. I’m actually really considering picking one up now – especially that sleek, sexy Sunset Overdrive one!
Steam has another 71 games on sale this week, including Ghostbusters: The Video Game for $2.99, Super Sanctum TD for $0.59, and Nethergate: Resurrection for $0.99, among others. The Daily Deal is Music Creator 6 Touch, which is on sale for $12.49.
Humble has a new bundle, too – the Humble Flash Bundle Boo!. Pay what you want for Claire and Zafehouse: Diaries. Pay $6 or more to unlock Deadly 30 and Haunt the House: Terrortown. And pay $10 or more to unlock Doorways: Chapters 1 to 3 Collection. Scoooop them up!
There are quite a few wonderful shirts available today!
