Nintendo will release a pair of see-through 2DS systems in Europe

seethrough2ds

Nintendo already has plans to release three new 3DS designs this Fall in North America, but European gamers will be able to choose from two new 2DS models as well. Echoing the clear cartridges produced for the Game Boy Color, the “Transparent Blue” and “Transparent Red” 2DS systems will be “transparent in design, revealing the skeleton of the system underneath both the front and back of the system casing.” Both models be available on November 7 across Europe.

However, if you’d prefer to bundle your brand new 2DS with a copy of the latest Pokemon game, Nintendo of Europe will give you that option as well. Beginning November 28, Transparent Blue + Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire and Transparent Red + Pokemon: Omega Ruby bundles will be available. And instead of a packed-in Game Card, each bundle will include a 4GB Memory Card pre-loaded with the game.

A North American release wasn’t announced, but I hope Nintendo of America is seriously considering it.

Blizzard ceases development on their Titan MMO and officially cancels StarCraft: Ghost

blizzardlogoIn an interview with Polygon, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has confirmed that the company’s upcoming MMO, Titan, has been canceled. Development on Titan previously hit a snag when Blizzard delayed it into 2016 “at the earliest” last year. This massive delay was due to Blizzard blowing up their work on the game to start from scratch. According to Morhaime, that wasn’t enough to save Titan:

“We didn’t find the fun,” Morhaime continued. “We didn’t find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that’s the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no.”

Morhaime is unsure if the developer will ever try their hand at an MMO again, but he still has big plans for World of Warcraft. “My hope personally is that we’ll support it forever,” he told Polygon. And finally, after being “on hold” for years, Morhaime also confirmed that StarCraft: Ghost is officially canceled as well:

“It’s always really, really hard to make those kind of decisions. It was hard when we canceled Warcraft Adventures. It was hard when we canceled StarCraft Ghost. But it has always resulted in better-quality work.”

The decision to cancel Titan was definitely affected by Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, which just notched its 20 millionth player last week.

United Front announces Sleeping Dogs spinoff Triad Wars

Triad Wars is an online open-world action adventure PC game where you rise to power as a criminal kingpin of the Triad underworld,” says developer United Front Games. Triad Wars is meant to be the other side of the Sleeping Dogs world – instead of playing as good guy Wei Shen, now you’re trying to build your own gang. You can fight your way to the top – or extort your way there.

Triad Wars is PC-only, and you can sign up for the closed beta right now. They’re also having a Reddit AMA today at 12:00 pm PST (3:00 pm EST), so bring your questions!

Somebody gets maimed in Sunset Overdrive’s live action trailer… maybe

Insomniac Games has spent all year hyping up the insane action that’ll be found in this Fall’s Sunset Overdrive. When players aren’t zip-lining and rail-grinding from place to place, they’ll battle hordes of mutants with a variety of different weapons including one that shoots exploding teddy bears.

Is it possible to translate all of this absurdity into a live action trailer? Probably not… but Insomniac wasn’t going to let a pesky thing like the safety of their actors get in their way. Unfortunately, their attempt to produce the greatest live action trailer of all time resulted in a few disemboweled actors and a fiery rain of body parts. Thankfully, this behind-the-scenes look at the production should make you glad its all just a parody.

Sunset Overdrive will be released exclusively for the Xbox One on October 28.

The Walking Dead Season 2: Amid the Ruins Review: The Dark Before the Dawn

walkingdead-season2-header

In the television world, the finale is perhaps the most important episode of the season. It needs to be exciting and emotional. It needs to provide closure, while at the same time end on a cliffhanger and leave unanswered questions. How else could we remain interested in the show during that excruciating, seven-month wait until the next season? This rings true for the current season of The Walking Dead TV series. Rick and the gang are once again in a dire situation, and we don’t know what’s going to happen next. What happened to Beth? What do the residents of Terminus want? Will we riot if Daryl dies? See, now I’m getting anxious just talking about it. OK, back on track.

In order for the season finale to pack a punch, you need the prior episode to provide a good set up – which usually means a duller entry. This is not bad; it just slows down the momentum a bit. But it is necessary in order to make the finale that much stronger. A calm before the storm, if you will. Ergo, Season 2 of the The Walking Dead video game is no different from its television counterpart. As we draw ever closer to the conclusion of the season, we need to have the penultimate preparation episode – as we get ready for the end. Episode 4 follows this same mantra, giving us a notably slower episode, but still enjoyable in its own right. (more…)

Sony sets PlayStation TV, their Vita set-top box, for release on October 14

playstation-header

Sony has announced that their Vita set-top box, the PlayStation TV, will be released on October 14. The mini-console will be available by itself (for $99.99) and as a special bundle that includes a DualShock 3 controller, an 8GB Memory Card, and a copy of The Lego Movie ($139.99). And if you’re a regular Walmart shopper, you might like to know that the retailer will be carrying a special edition of the PlayStation TV bundle that also includes a copy of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

According to Sony, the PlayStation TV includes the ability to play more than 700 games from a wide variety of PlayStation consoles. In addition to the vast majority of Vita games (which can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store or inserted into the Vita game slot), the mini-console can also play downloaded PSone and PSP Classics as well as PS3 games through the PlayStation Now streaming service. And just like a Vita, the PlayStation TV also supports PS4 Remote Play.

The complete list of every PlayStation TV-compatible title can be found at PlayStation.com.
