Weekly Warp-Up: PAX Prime 2014 Countdown

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

We’re just a few days from the kickoff of PAX Prime 2014. The final big gaming convention of the Summer will be held from August 29 through September 1 in Seattle and it promises plenty of surprises and lots of great games to play. And if you’re heading to PAX Prime, be sure to hit up the Indie Megabooth installation and say hi to Warp Zoned’s Nicole Kline and Anthony Amato. They’ll be there to demo Resistor, their awesome card game (I’m probably biased).

Elsewhere on the show floor, you’ll be able to play games from Atari, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and The Behemoth’s Game 4.

What else happened this week besides PAX Prime preparation? Hit the jump to find out. (more…)

New Releases: Madden NFL 15, Metro Redux, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, More

newreleases082614

The month of August is coming to a close and its taking the Summer gaming drought with it.

As they do every year, EA Sports wants to ask: “Are you ready for some football?” If you are, then you’re probably already aware that Madden NFL 15 will be available this week. Just like last year, the game will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. And if you haven’t made your next-generation console choice yet, there’s going to be a Madden NFL 15 Xbox One Bundle available as well.

A different kind of battle will take place on the 3DS this week with the release of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. These two titans of the handheld puzzle game genre will go head-to-head to prove once and for all that… actually, nevermind. Neither character challenges the other and, in fact, they team up in Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney to solve a crime. So I’m not sure where the “vs” in the title comes from.

Finally this week, a trio of games will receive spiffy re-releases on a new platform. NIS America resurrects the first game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series on the Vita as Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth 1. And Deep Silver is bringing back Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in a next-generation package known as Metro Redux on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

XBL Store Today: Fibbage

xboxone-logoOK, technically, Fibbage: The Hilarious Bluffing Party Game was added to the Xbox Live Games Store yesterday. This “multiplayer trivia party” for the Xbox One comes from the makers of You Don’t Know Jack and asks players to lie to their friends while ensuring they don’t get fooled by their friend’s lies.

Up to eight player can play Fibbage, but you don’t need any extra controllers. Any smartphone, tablet, or laptop will work as a controller. That’s pretty neat. More information on Fibbage can be found in its Games Store description:

Fibbage: The Hilarious Bluffing Party Game ($6.99)
Fibbage is the lying, bluffing, fib-till-you-win multiplayer trivia party game from the makers of You Don’t Know Jack! Play with 2-8 players! Fool your friends with your lies, avoid theirs, and find the (usually outrageous) truth. And get this: your phone or tablet is your controller!

“The mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky is a _____.” Baby? Rabbit? Ham sandwich? It’s up to you! Fool your opponents into thinking your bluff is true and you’ll rack up the points! But be careful, if you pick an opponent’s bluff, they’ll be doing a Fibbage fancy dance. Hosted by You Don’t Know Jack’s very own, and very lonely, Cookie Masterson!

Square Enix has got quite an impressive array of titles in development including Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, all of those games are currently on track for a release in 2015, so they won’t be appearing at next weekend’s PAX Prime convention.

Instead, the publisher will put out playable demos of overhead puzzle platformer Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Kingdom Hearts compilation Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix, and free-to-play team fighter Nosgoth. Square Enix will also show off some of their handheld offerings including the upcoming Hitman: Sniper, musical sequel Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, and a pair of currently available Dragon Quest games for mobile devices (Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King).

The 2014 PAX Prime convention will be held from August 29 to September 1. I hope you’ve already got your tickets, because it is sold out. More information on everything Square Enix plans to bring to the expo can be found after the break. (more…)
