Dishonored 2 will sneak into stores on November 11; Full reveal planned for E3 2016

Bethesda and Arkane Studios have kept quiet about Dishonored 2 since its E3 2015 debut, but that all changes today as the publisher and developer confirmed that it’ll be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 11.

In the stealthy sequel, players will have a choice of two playable characters: Corvo Attano or Empress Emily Kaldwin. Both characters are front and center on the cover of this month’s issue of Game Informer, which will also include an in-depth discussion with the team behind Dishonored 2 including Creative Director Harvey Smith, Lead Designer Dinga Bakaba, and Art Director Sebastien Mitton.

Bethesda also promised to give the public their first look at actual gameplay from Dishonored 2 during their 2016 E3 Showcase, which will take place just ahead of the E3 Expo on Sunday, June 12.

The Changing Face of Bethesda’s Heroes Led the Way at E3 2015

bethesdalogo

Bethesda’s first-ever E3 Press Conference was chock-full of goodies, from Dishonored: Definitive Edition for next generation consoles to a new Doom and its intuitive SnapMap creator. But there was also something else to celebrate during the presentation, as the company’s two biggest announcements, Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2, both offered the choice to play as a female character. And believe it or not, every game showcased by Bethesda will give players that same choice. (more…)

Dishonored 2 debut trailer shows a return to the clockwork world of Corvo and Emily

Gamers flocked to Dishonored for its combination of stealth gameplay and a visually amazing steampunk aesthetic. After three long years, we’ll finally get to return to the world of Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin in Dishonored 2.

Taking place several years after the end of Dishonored, Princess Emily is all grown up and decides to join Corvo in his mission to help the people and stop the plague. Players will take control of both characters, who each have their own unique powers, weapons, and tools. In development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One at Arkane Studios, Dishonored 2 will be released in Spring 2016.

But first, the publisher used their E3 Press Conference to unveil the great-looking trailer embedded above. Take a look, it’s worth it.

Insert Quarter: Why Bethesda’s E3 Showcase Means More Than a Fallout 4 Announcement

insertquarter-header

Insert Quarter is our showcase for some of the best and most interesting writing about video games on the Internet.

Bethesda will present a Press Conference during this year’s E3 Expo for the first time in the company’s history. This is a momentous occasion for many reasons, but first and foremost, because Bethesda will surely use the event to announce Fallout 4. But Bethesda’s E3 Press Conference is also much bigger than that… and not just because it’ll probably also include more substantive reveals of Doom 4, BattleCry, and possibly even Dishonored 2. Bethesda’s E3 Press Conference also signals the publisher’s entry into the upper echelon of third-party publishers.

VG247’s Matt Martin recently delved into exactly what this means for Bethesda and the wider gaming industry:

Elder Scrolls publisher Bethesda announced it would be hosting its own event at E3 this year. For a brief second everyone paused… and then immediately lost their minds over a Fallout 4 announcement.

While that’s likely, there’s a lot more to Bethesda going big at E3 than a new take on 50s sci-fi. It’s worth looking at what this says about the publisher, the two main consoles and E3 itself, as much as the games we can expect to be on show.

Mortal Kombat X will not include platform-specific characters

mortalkombatx-header

Trolling Twitter is practically Ed Boon’s full-time job. The Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios (you know, his actual full-time job) has been dropping hints about platform-specific characters coming to Mortal Kombat X on the social media service for quite a while now. A few months ago, the online scuttlebutt said that The Predator would be playable in the game while Twisted Metal‘s Sweet Tooth became the guest du jour just before the PlayStation Experience.

But Shaun Himmerick, the game’s Executive Producer, put the kibosh on his boss’s teasing by telling Hardcore Gamer that Mortal Kombat X will not include platform-specific characters:

Hardcore Gamer: Which brings me to a good followup question, are there any plans for platform-specific characters like Kratos in Mortal Kombat 9?

Himmerick: We have no platform exclusive characters planned for MKX.

Obviously, anything could happen between now and the game’s April 2015 launch date. But as of today, don’t expect to base your PC vs Xbox 360/Xbox One vs PS3/PS4 purchasing decision on which platform has the coolest exclusive character.

Hyper Light Drifter “probably” won’t be released until early 2015

hyperlightdrifter-header

Those of you who were hoping to get you hands on Heart Machine’s much-anticipated action RPG Hyper Light Drifter may have to wait at least another few months. During this year’s PAX East, studio head Alex Preston revealed to Destructoid that, while the game was progressing, an early 2015 release date is “probably […] more realistic” than the current late 2014 target.

Speaking about how the company had managed to raise $600,000 for the game on Kickstarter, Preston said, “We’ve seen a lot of backers come out [to PAX East], and it’s been fantastic to meet them, and the reception from everyone else has been pretty damn good.”

Hyper Light Drifter, an homage to 16-bit RPG classics but with modern mechanics, has been described as a fusion of the best bits of franchises like Zelda and Diablo. To find out more about the game, you should check out our own PAX East preview right here.

Michel Ancel teases concept art from Beyond Good & Evil 2

I know it’s been a long time, but Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development at Ubisoft under the direction of Michel Ancel. Further proof of the game’s continued existence was delivered by Ancel himself a few weeks ago during a Q&A session with BG&E Myth. At 2:06 in the video above, Ancel unfurls a poster showing Jade’s new character design. The image shows Jade wearing clothes and in a pose very similar to traditional Japanese drawings of samurai and ronin.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development for next-generation consoles and will be released eventually. Probably a few years from now after several more teases like this one.

There are two Bumblebees in the latest Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark trailer

Activision’s Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released this year and it will combine the world of Michael Bay’s Transformers films (including this Summer’s Age of Extinction) with High Moon’s War For Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron series. The game’s latest trailer makes good on this promise with two versions of the little yellow robot that could: Bumblebee. The two never meet, but both “Earth” Bumblebee and the more lovable “Cybertron” Bumblebee will make an appearance in Rise of the Dark Spark.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is in development at Edge of Reality and it will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in June. A slighty different version of the game is also in the works for the 3DS at WayForward Technologies.
