The Games of January 2017

We’re all super tired from the holidays, and have tons to play in our backlog! So there’s not much that interests us this month of January. That’s not true… quite a few of us are into Double Dragon IV! Read on to see which one of us plan to pick that up when it releases.

We’re nearly halfway through the month of January and barely anything new has found its way onto store shelves. But things will definitely start picking up in the second half of the month, starting with the Early Access/Game Preview launch of Pit People this Friday. I’ve been following The Behemoth’s turn-based strategy game for quite awhile, and I can bear-ly contain myself.

Also coming this month… and I almost can’t believe it’s real… is Double Dragon IV from Arc System Works. The 20-years-later sequel seems to be heavily inspired by my favorite game from the long-running franchise, the NES edition of Double Dragon II: The Revenge, so this one that I’m going to check out sooner rather than later.

Honestly, I got so many games over the holiday break that there’s no way I’m going to pick up anything in January. If I could pick one game that I would play, though, it would be Gravity Rush 2. I never finished the first one, but this one looks like they’ve fixed a lot of the problems I had with that, so I’d love to give it a try and at least check out the demo. Maybe when it’s on sale in a few months, I’ll pick it up!

For me, there can be only one game this month… Double Dragon IV. This was one of my favourite games as a child, and it is strongly remembered amongst my friends, so to get to play a sequel 20 years later is a retro dream come true!

I only see two games coming out in January that interest me. The first is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. I applaud Capcom for bringing the series back to its survival horror roots, while at the same time trying something new with the first-person viewpoint. It can’t be any worse than 6, right?

Another one that just popped on my radar (and that’s only because it was just announced) is Double Dragon IV. The beat ’em up genre is one of my favorites, and I really can’t wait to see how well the next entry in the series turns out.
