The Games of March 2018

Welcome to March, you’re cordially invited to a party for the Nintendo Switch’s first anniversary. While fans surely have plenty of backlogged Switch games to keep them busy, the consolemaker also has one new game on their schedule to mark this milestone. And if you’re a Switch owner, and you’re on the lookout for a new game, you might be interested in Kirby Star Allies.

Kirby’s adventures always feature a unique art style, and that’s something that’s very much in vogue with a few other games set to launch this month including The Behemoth’s Pit People and Level-5’s Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. Elsewhere on the release calendar, after a short delay, it looks like Ubisoft is ready to delve deep into the heart of a doomsday cult in Far Cry 5.

Why is the Warp Zoned staff looking forward to these games? You can find out after the break, along with a complete release schedule for all of this month’s new releases.

Pit People: Full Version (March 2)
Ever since it first appeared through Early Access last year, The Behemoth’s Pit People has provided fans with an interesting turn-based RTS in the developer’s colorful house style. But with the launch of the “Full Version,” we’ll finally get to find out exactly how it’s bizarro story turns out.

The Behemoth has three games on their resume, and each one turned a classic genre on its head. After riding along for their unique take on shooters (Alien Hominid), brawlers (Castle Crashers), and platformers (BattleBlock Theater), I’m ready to dive in and see what they’ve done to strategy games. – John Scalzo

Kirby Star Allies (March 16)
Massive confession… I have never played a Kirby game (unless you count his appearances in the Smash Bros. franchise). So I’m genuinely looking forward to picking up Kirby Star Allies on the Switch.

It feels like I’ve been jumping from one epic open world game to the next (from Horizon: Zero Dawn to Xenoblade Chronicles 2), but as a cutesy platformer in the same vein as Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby Star Allies looks like a welcome change of pace. Plus, Kirby wear’s Link’s hat, and can turn into a a curling stone, which I found out during the Winter Olympics are all made on a tiny wee island in Scotland. Trufax! – Andrew Rainnie

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (March 23)
I’m so excited about Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom that I can barely contain myself! I had such a blast playing the first game, and I cannot wait to dive back into that world. This is surprising to no one, seeing as my husband Anthony refers to the first game as “the best Pokemon game ever.” I’m looking forward to the new characters, what’s sure to be a charming plot, and of course, the wonderful animation and music! – Nicole Kline

Far Cry 5 (March 27)
I can’t wait for Far Cry 5. I loved the open-world, stealth-or-action gameplay, and after finding out that the game takes place in Montana, only made it that more enticing. It’s a breath of fresh air from the jungles of prior games, and having to fight against a cult of crazies just seems perfect. I normally wait for any Ubisoft game to drop to $20 before I pick it up, but this one may just be a day one purchase. – Mike Ryan
